The session was great. Some of the pics here. First and foremost, I would like to apologize to Nazimkecik for not able to take his picture in action--as my camera batt went completely off during his dive. I should've charged it b4 hand.. sorry bro! Owe you a meal.

Pool viz is great. Someone must've cleaned it since we last visited. Water tasted a bit less salty... don't know why... ;-)

Shiekh...youre the sifu...look at your pis really wonderful man!!!hehehehe..Superb pics take out!!!

Anwyay thanks anyway for the organizer and also snafu who is kind enough to let us try his expensive machine.  Anyway found out that its not that easy to handle this machine and to breathe with this machine.  A total difference from what you breathe with open circuit.  But it is really nice when u breathe warm moist air, with noi bubbles, and only listening to a bit of your breath. ah...complete silence...

PS:mr sheikh, where oes that cuttlefish comes from la wei?in the pool ar?

i think all of us had good experience with it. It's a matter of getting used to handling it. I am actually looking forward to use it in open sea... :-)

Please find more pictures before the actual dives. The prep of it is a little time-consuming as well. But the result is great!

Hey Folks! had a wonderful time yesterday at the pool, i would like to thanks the organizers and tuan punyer rebreather Snafu for letting us use his set. It was a good experience and I personally learn a bit more about the process that goes into setting up and diving a rebreather. Thanks again All!  :)

THE DAY I DIVED CCR (CLOSE CIRCUIT REBREATHER) – THE INSPIRATION
SHAH ALAM, SUNDAY 19TH NOV 2006 : Shah Alam Aquatic Center. Dept – 5 mtrs.

A week ago I received a calling via YM about the CCR Inspiration try out. It was Hollowman asking me if I would like to participate in the try out. I tot to myself “open circuit” pun tak terror lagi.. somemore want to try the Inspiration??? Then again I tot.. Sifu wants to share (after so much pestering from curious friends) the experience of diving CCR. Hey.. Why not? Cuba try test lahh… bila lagi nak dapat opportunity macam nie? So.. Friends, here’s my story. In laymans terms ok.

The Brief Briefing
The girls were called up for the 1st briefing on the very basic usage of the Inspiration. My heart was already pounding.. (Thinking to myself, geez.. what am I getting myself into). The things I could remember were:

-      When breathing, and if I taste the air kindda funny (stale air) abort the dive. Ask for the octopus from your buddy (at that time was Bubble Bunny) and ascend. Just in case, there may be an o’ring failure or scrubber failure that could cause this stale air to occur. (Guess what? My heart pounded faster..).

-      To descend > it’s TOTALLY different! Take a deep breath thru your mouth and breathe out thru the nose into the mask nice.. and slow.

-      Now there’s this BLUE button (called – the DILUENT button). When pressed, injects air. So while you inhale and experience uncomfortable breathing just press the blue button. And then breathe normally.

-      And if you hear a beeping sound… ascend.

-      Off course there is MORE to it, but much more technical. So this basic information is enough for our try out.

After the girls were briefed, then it’s the boys turn. I went to suit up.

The Experience
After awhile I heard Sifu call for Lara.. ‘Come Lara, you are gonna go first’. What??? My eyes roaming all around fast for Snafuette. ‘Snafuette! Where the hell are you?’ Sifu said ‘Oh.. She’s underwater’ Damn! Gulp! My heart is pounding faster than ever by now. Suka tak suka.. I had to do it. I tot I cud do it second or third and watch those who started first and learn. But Sifu’s waiting now.. And the program has got to start. And I cant let down all the LaraCrofts out there can I.. heheh..

During my heart pounding moments, Sifu help strap on the Inspiration while Sheik help put on my fins.. Thanks Sheik, love u for that. Maklumlah.. tengah risau. Then I heard NazimKecik comment “Lara.. Why your face so panic?” ‘Pasal mmg panic laaa…’. Not knowing what’s gonna happen.. panic lar.

Put the mouth piece in my mouth and practise breathing first. In…. Out…. (switch off your nose now..) and In… Out… Then I felt uncomfortable.. I told Sifu, everytime I breath in, I felt that I cudnt take one full breath. Sifu told me to press the Blue Button.. and air will be injected into the ‘counter lung’ and ahhh.. now I can take a normal breath. Yeay..much better now. So in the water I go. Still breathing In…. Out.... Getting the hang of it at the surface, Bubble Bunny right there by my side and ever so patient. Its time to take a deep breath and exhale thru the nose and that will help me descend. Did that a couple of times.. and hey hey hey… I’m sinking man.. And that was a WOW for me. I did it! Once I’m down there.. Sifu skinned dive in to see if im okay. Yeah.. gave Sifu the OK sign and NOW! I gotta move from this end to the other end, so apa lagi start fining lah.

Guess what? My buoyancy sucked BIG TIME!!! One minute I’m on the floor the next minute I’m rising up. Tried to apply the breathing technique, exhaled out all the air in my lungs to stop me from rising but it’s not working. Bubble Bunny had to pull me down every now and then. Finally I just use my fins to fin down. Then I realised.. hey.. no bubbles and no sound of bubbles.. Just all calm and quiet. This is COOL Sifu! Now I’m having fun. As I reached the other end of the pool, I turn around and what do you know.. All my friends were escorting me from behind. Thanx guys.. Sheik, NazimKecik, Mocha, Holemaster, Hollowman, KatakPink, Evo, Mephisto and Comrade. By now my heart aint pounding no more.. Once awhile I could hear the sound “psst” according to Sifu that’s the sound of the (O2) being injected automatically. Cool huh? Since I didn’t get enuf of 1 round of the pool I did another 1½ round and then I hear the beeping sound and Bubble Bunny gave me the thumb up sign to ascend… sigh..

A couple of basic points I learned:
1. What type of air was I inhaling in and out? Enriched Air = Nitrox

2. What’s the most basic difference diving CCR and Scuba?
Scuba = Compressed Air = dry air
CCR = Enriched Air = moist air

3. Are there any other gasses involved when diving CCR? Yeah.. Helium,Oxygen, Trimix..

If I’m wrong, please correct me Sifu. Anyway Sifu.. I will ask you questions that are playing in my head from time to time.

Thank You

My many many thanks to Sifu for letting me share the Inspiration experience. Its was kindda scary at first not knowing what I’ll experience.. but after that.. It was fun and cool too. In spite of the fun, I learned something new.

Thanks to Hollowman too for inviting me. Not for your invite I wouldn’t be there man. Thanks bro.

Thanks Bubble Bunny for being so patient and to see me thru the whole Inspiration experience. Thanks Buddy.

Thanks to all my friends that were there and making the event pleasurable. They are:
Snafu
Snafuette
Bubble Bunny
Hollowman
Holemaster
Sheikh
Comrade
KatakPink
Mephisto
Evo555
Mocha

I’m sure I could have left out some things. So friends fell free to inject some basic info I missed. Lastly.. I had a great Sunday.

Cheers!

Sheik,Thank you for taking the photos & for lending me your mask... cos Snafu's mask was fogging up all the time...ahhahah expensive but lousy!!! Your moldy mask was much better....  thanks!!!  ::)

Bubblebunny, my buddy - who has never failed to be there when i didnt know when to press the BLUE button hahahahaa for a sec, i was not able to breathe..... Thanks buddy for always watching over me!!!  :o

Of course, the one and only Snafu  :-* - who was kind enough to let me use his Rebreather (by the way, it is his baby) and sorry i accidentially flooded the system................ so good lah so patient wth all of us.... of course my bouyancy was all over the place... and the techniques that we learnt in open water was totally WRONG if it was applied.....  nevertheless, at least now i have tried the rebreather....
I cannot say i like it very much - maybe i am so used to the normal diving with cold air... maybe i can try a few more times then i might like it??? hahhahahhaah  8-)

Wow! What an experience. The whole buoyancy thing really threw everything we learned in Open Water out the window. Exhale > Float. Inhale > Sink. What the?? Whats up with that?!  :-/

Anyway, thanks to everyone especially Snafu and Holemaster for organising the event. Where else can we get a rebreather experience for 10 bucks?!! Absoluely awesome!!!!

I've never seen anyone take such good care of equipment before. Snafu cleans everything. And i mean EVERYTHING meticulously. Did you know they have a disinfectant spray just for rebreathers?  :o It's apparently so we don't catch herpes ::) LOL. Great stuff

Well, although the time was short with the CCR, the experience was one of a kind.

Cheers!

i hope i am not late... was away the past few days...  :) thanx snaf for allowing us to try his rebreather... if it wasnt bcoz of him, dun think i'll haf the chance to ever try a rebreather... at least not for now.... harga macam a brand new kancil or kelisa la... haha... maybe if starong enuf can strap klancil behind my back and dive.....  ;D oh... not forgetting holemaster for organizing it and hollowman for collecting RMs.. hehe.... 8-)
the preparation part was a bit tedious... long and troblesome.. but guess that's what u need from rebreather divers!! patience and discipline!! was following snafu from the begining of the preparation process.... at least i can understand the mechanics of it now... hehe...... eventhough not in detail....
totally different experience.... inhaling and exhaling can never be used to correct bouyancy... ended up crashing to the bottom most of the time..... was kicking hard when sheikh was pointing the camera at me to stay neutrally bouyant... haha... it was so quiet....
still amaze with the whole concept of rebreather... looks as though very easy to construct but the engineering value is just amazing!!
last but not least, special thanx to all the divers who were present! it wouldnt be the same without u guys.... should have more get together like this in the future... maybe can think of other activities....  :D :D ohh... btw... i am more than heppi to help u clean the rebreather next time..  ;D
thanx sheikh for taking all the pics.... haven't seen them on any friendsters yet.... hehe.....
p/s: tell me if u wanna spray your rebreather like evo's fin.. haha....  ;D
