Tioman Dive

Post Number:#1  Postby geraldyne » Mon Jan 21, 2013 11:28 am

Hey peeps,

I've been assigned ("force" is a more accurate...hahahaha) by raffidi and expressdupio to organize a weekend dive at Tioman in March.

As a preliminary start of this event, belows are some of the suggestion we trash out over our meet-up session last Friday. Please share your thoughts.

Dive site: Tioman (South) - this is the best description I could master as I have never been to Tiamon for diving
Dates: 23 - 25 March or 30 to 1 April - we choose from Saturday to Monday in hope that we are the only divers on the island or at least on our last dive day, it would be only us!
Dive centre: will be confirm later once we have majority consensus of those who are joining

Cheers

Geraldyne,
Thanks for "volunteering" to organise this trip.....hehe!!!
Anyway, are you sure you want to do the trip during the school holidays? It's going to be a bit crazy especially with the ferry schedule.
How about the 15-17 Mar? And I remember espressiodupio mentioning that we should park and dive from Tekek, right?
Anyway, if you do decide to do it 23-25 Mar I'll be able to bring my son along for the trip.
Cheers.....

I never dive from Salang or Tekek, all the while I have been diving from Genting. Hence i cant provide any comment. I believe other memebers must have some great ideas about it! Looking forward to the trip! :afro:

Tekek -is more homey. The central hub for villagers, goverment authorities, school & berjaya resort. Free duty shop.
Salang - the last stop for the ferry , a short strech of land, the sin city of the island. Free duty shop(smaller compare to the one in tekek)

tekek nearest dive spot: pirate/pilot reef, sawadee, renggis
Salang : soyak , house reef, bt malang, fan canyon, sepoi, labas, and many more

for more dive spots
http://www.tioman-dive-centre.com/divesites.html

once u have finalise which place to stay and which dive center to use, then it comes to the decision of what type of diving u want to purge urself into.
shore dives ?Wreck dives? deep dives? drift dives? pinnacle dives? swim trus? dawn dives? sunset dives? night dives?

i did sunset dive at renggis. Magnifico. Seen shark, baracuda, sea snake, turtle.
tiger reef and golden reef - those who hasnt been to tioman, u have to add this place. heaven of softcorals in pink, purple, yellow. Its like a garden. just one thing, it can be
hard to dive when there are currents around but no need to worry have bouyline so just hang on to it.
labas - another spot different from the rest. formation of rocks & stones and so u need to dive swimming thrus the rock formation. Look out for scorpion fish mimicking the stones at the dark
places.
Chebeh consider as deep dive. can be hard during currentz or surge on the surface. u will swim along the side of the island. With big rocks and good viz , u wont be dissappointed. A good bumphead sighting.
Wreck- you have to add wreck in your dive trip. Where else then the new wreck KM Sipadan. sawadee at tekek is good but very gloomy and u only can swim around it.Not into it.

Right. Let's do this then. PEOPLE, please put in your votes and recommendations by 8 Feb.

Then we well get together with expressodupio to finalize the arrangement and pricing by end Feb. Cause we also need ample time for leave application and work load arrangement.

Also guys, please invite your friends as well... I might have 3 friends joining us.

Note: The above timeline is based on majority going on the 16 to 18 March.

Cheers  ;)

If you guys are staying in tekek, try squeeze in some time for shore dive. Swim out to about 200m from shore and descent to the depth of about 20m and start your dive there. The sea floor may seem dead but look out for hydroids, sponges and you'll find some interesting nudis, shrimps and other macros. Saw tiger shrimps and a black frog fish on a piece of sponge some time back.

Also try to dive the sites mentioned by run, tiger reef and golden reef are quite far but they are beautiful submerge reefs. Chebeh is another good site if you like drift dive, just follow the current and drift pass and in between huge boulders while taking in the view of beeeautiful gargonians. And if you are really lucky like me, you might bump into a whale shark :)

Have a good one!
