What is this?

Post Number:#1  Postby seamoth » Tue May 21, 2013 1:01 pm

Hi everyone, this is fairly common around the East Coast islands but I have never been able to ID it. It is 4-5cm in height, appears purple underwater, but with strobe shows its true violet colour. What is it?

Thanks for any help.

I believe it is a type of sponge called puffball sponge or oceanapia sagittaria.
Anyone can confirm this?

Thank you very much, you are right. I have always suspect it was a sponge but could never find its name.
