Scuba Outing At Pulau Sipadan Ends In Tragedy For Two In Family From China

SEMPORNA, May 28 (Bernama) -- A Chinese national and her daughter died after getting into difficulties while scuba diving in Pulau Sipadan waters Friday.

Semporna police chief DSP Mohd Azim Khan Abdullah said in the 8.30am incident, a United States national diving with them came to their aid and managed to pull them up into their boat to be rushed to the hospital but they died while on the way to the Semporna Hospital.

The woman was 58 and her daughter 31.

Their bodies are being kept at the Semporna Hospital mortuary.

The Star article says they were snorkeling, not diving.

And they were at Pulau Sibuan, not Pulau Sipadan.

Considering that it is the more detailed report, I think the Bernama one is in error.

i did a search. Pulau Sabuan and Pulau Mantabuan are small islands, part of Tun Sakaran Marine Park. Off semporna. good for snorkeling it seems for day trips out of semporna.

Yup. Sibuan and Mantabuan are just 20-25 minutes from Semporna. Small islands, exellent dive sites. I'm going to dive Sibuan this coming Tuesday  B-)
