I'm just back from Koh Tao and completed the PADI Enriched Air Diver course. Koh Tao really a dive paradise!! Highly recommended for dive trip! =)
During my deep dive+Nitrox, I saw my 1st whale shark in my life at Chumphon pinnacle!!! OMG! I'm so happy to see the occasionnal visitor on my 7th dive. No words can express what I feel. (*actually there's tear in my eyes when I first saw the lovely).. Hahaha..
Will continue to dive..........

Welcome. I'm based on Koh Tao. Which DC did you went to? Chumphon Pinnacle is the best. Too bad no more bull sharks there. In August there're couple of bull sharks around. Happy for you that you enjoy diving on Koh Tao.

Hi Fariz, I'm stayed at Crystal Dive. A great DC. =)
During that time, some divers saw a bull shark. But I didn't. Instead, I got my 'consolation prize'-Whale shark. >_<
Soon you will meet them..

Crystal is 1 of the 3 biggest dc on koh tao. Good to hear another Malaysian dive there. I've been looking for Malaysian to dive there but no luck yet.

I know this seems kind of outdated but I was just looking at the Crystal Dive website and the DMT internship has intrigued me and I am seriously at this point considering doing it.
What are the odds of doing the DMT and eventually employment?

U want the fast way or a good hard way?
Fri Jan 04, 2013 4:58 pm
Tell me both...in all honesty I am thinking of a career change to diving and I want to explore all the options I have.
I do appreciate any feedback.

there are already a lot of DMT and DM around malaysia. They work base on season. During monsoon they are off or they go to sabah/phuket/bali (under visa for 6 months)
From what i normally see being practise here for (example island base) candidates will approach any of the dive centers or instructors and then do their DMT chores such as checking the tank, cleaning the dive center, assist the divers for fun dives, doing the what ever job you normally see your DM do during your dive trip. In return the dive center will give the candidate(DMT) free lodging, food and perhaps some little cash. At the end, if the DMT able to stay true and virtue to the dive center or instructor, they will pay for the DM fee or perhaps work under contract until the fee is settle little by little.
Not many divers can follow this kind of method coz it may take more than a few months.
the fast way-->take up rescue diver course -> then take up DM course (different dive center offer different time of period for intenship this link is one of the example and this one u got to pay for the lodging, foods and etc: http://www.baliocean.com/en/idc_bali_internships_dm.blueseason
some of the skills that you need to know briefly describe here.http://www.deep-six.com/divemstr.htm
As how far or good the payment for being a DM, i think being an instructor is way richer.
Overall working as DM or instructor is also consider as part of Customer Service. If you provide good
service , ur customer will come back to find u.
Just go to any of the dive centers and have a Q&A with them about your interest.

ahh alritey, yeah do realize it's much more fruitful to do instructors but just don't think I'm at that level yet so logically in my head DM first and eventually along the track do the instructors.
I've got funds stashed aside for DM so that's fine, but yeah to solely rely on DM to pay the bills, probably not. Kinda in between things at the moment so I kinda sorta have time at the moment.
I guess I'll put this thought again on the backburner and just dive more.
Thank you for the input run, I'm Rick btw. Maybe we can acquainted sometime in the future with some dives!

I'm not too sure how it works in Malaysia but where I work now, most dive school have their own DMT. You consider lucky if you can get a full time job as a DM (like me. The only DM in big dive center. Can ask tunaturner, she did her advanced at my place where I work) Plus Koh Tao have too many instructors and they still work as a freelancer. High chances you get a job if you can speak more languages other than English. That's my honest answer.
