It really depends what you want it for. Speed, power, maneuverability.  I personally use a Mares Volo Race and enjoy them. Soft and easy to use and for the first time no cramps. It's a full foot fin too. I don't have strong legs see :) Fins are quite a personal choice. i suggest if possible you go try them out first

From my opinion

Mares :
Avanti quatro.
+It is a paddle fin. Full foot version many Dive Master loves to wear it cause it simple.
+Paddle fin allows you to do frog kick at ease.
-stiff on the foot pocket. try buying a long cut booties.

Apollo :
Bio-fin
+Full of rubber. Makes you wearing less weight.
+No need to hard kicking during finning.
+Reduce air consumption and tiredness during finning
+flexible since it is rubber
+feels like a walrus seal swimming underwater
+rubber foot pocket. doesn't hurt the skin
-heavy and will cost you by air luggage
-can cut easily by very sharp corals and stones

Atomic :
Split fins
+reduce air consumption and tiredness during finning(all splits does)
+No need to hard kicking during finning.
+it is positive bouyant and so even when you throw it into the water, it will surface back.( but just ask the supplier again about this)
+rubber foot pocket doesn't hurt the skin.
-size M-L have longer blades so it can be quite troublesome to pack into non-diving bag during air travel.
-it is a mix of plastic and rubber so have to pack and store nicely.

APS :
Manta ray
-from the looks of it not too inviting for me. I'm pretty sure the engineer was thinking, they need something looks like a jetfin but less effort on kicking and still have that little thrust inside.

Between paddle and split , both have different kick into it. I do mean kicking style. Like my diving buddy said "look at the leg lar". I have both split and paddle. At the end of the day, i only use my fins to fight currents which is around 10min or so in any dives. Hardly finning at highspeed at all (unless it is a snorkeling contest among the divers  :laughing11: )

bloop,
you are right, fins are personal thing, it depend on the owner.... B-)
i suggest u try out a few fins at pool before u decide to buy
mares avanti quattro is quite good if u have a strong leg to paddle it hehe.....i never really like split fins (sorry)
or u should try out scubapro jet fins, heavier than mares avanti quattro, but very powerfull trust, problem if u travel a lot by flight because it is heavy.....
good luck.... :D

My humble comments:

Mares Avanti Quattro: good fins especially in currents. Bit hard. Unless u have strong pair of legs. Otherwise, the user will be crying underwater. I suggest, change the strap to spring. Make it easier to wear/take out. Currently using (open heel) and loving it. Don't know bout the full foot and as Run were sayin, lots of DMs are using it.

Apollo Bio: easy kick. Dont quite like it. Heavy rubber. Underwater I can still feel that it is heavy. Tried only once so I can be wrong. Maybe not used to it.

Atomic split: easy kick. However I feel the open heel atomic is heavy underwater. Own a full foot and loving it. The full foot is cheap and very light. I found it easy to pack. Unlike my avanti which is slight longer and broader. Again, I'm referring to the full foot.

Manta: only pegang. No underwater experience. Heard good review. Must try.
I'm Not Perfect, but I'm Limited Edition

other than the Manta Ray, split fins.. bio fins, and avanti are more suitable for diver that use flutter kick. ofcoz you can do helicopter.. frog.. shuffle. etc with these fins.. but it is very soft and not so effective compared to hard type of fins like manta ray.

manta ray allow you to do helicopter.. frog kick.. bla bla.. kick.. easier. it is like a smaller and lighter type of jetfin. in short, manta will have a better control over the other fins you have mentioned :)

Being someone who somehow ended up owning 6 pairs of fins (don't ask me why), I'd put my money on Mares Super Channel. They are light, highly manuverable (f&*k the spelling) and doesn't cost a bomb. My 2 cents (the fins cost slightly more than that though).
