Why you need to taste, smell and see the air in your tank

Every instructors during your OW traning will teach you to check the air content of your tank
before engaging it to your scuba gears.
1) taste your air to check whether it taste something that you feel uncomfortable with
2) smell you air to check if there is any bad smell or damp odour
3) see the color of air release from tank

there is a further explanantion for doing this. The explanation is quite long you can read it here
but it is a good knowledge for us all. Be worry if you see anyone handling a compressor while smokin and believe me , i'm sure most of the people handling the compressor at the dive center dont know anything about this. They just know once the air is full-in-the-tank remove it and open the nut under or somewhere in the compressor after 30min or so to release out the pressure which consist of air, water and oil.
Lucky for us , we just need to test these 3 simple steps to check for our air quality. Unless you are one of the unlucky diver who suddenly have a super allergic reaction to the air content.

normal la ppl smoking around compressors, or ill-maintained compressors leading to high levels of CO and everything else that is bad for us.

symptoms i've faced - dry mouth, nausea, smelly air, headache.

after experiencing that - now i would test the air with 3 or 4 breathfuls before going in. usually lucky for us most DCs are strict when it comes to this.
