Recording Freedives

Post Number:#1  Postby kimseng the maverick rogue » Mon Sep 15, 2008 3:00 pm

abang mephisto, johnny, and the rest of the freedivers out there.

lets do a session in the pool.
officially measure, time  Dynamic Without Fins (DNF), Dynamic With Fins (DYN) & Static Apnea (STA)
then we can keep a record here in MUW.

cause i think we don't have one officially for Malaysia yet. plus its room for some bragging rights as well  :D :D :D :D :D :P :P

Post Number:#2  Postby kimseng the maverick rogue » Mon Sep 15, 2008 3:02 pm

btw for the benefit of the rest.... here are the explaination for the 3 disciplines.

Dynamic Without Fins (DNF)
The freediver travels in a horizontal position under water attempting to cover the greatest possible distance. Any propulsion aids are prohibited. Dynamic without fins is the most natural of both disciplines measuring the distance for many freedivers, because it doesn't need any propulsing material, but a very good technique. Performances also could only be recognized in pools with a minimum lenght of 25 meters, and are greatly appreciated from "old-swimmers".

Dynamic With Fins (DYN)
The freediver travels in a horizontal position under water attempting to cover the greatest possible distance. Any propulsion aids other than fins or a monofin and swimming movements with the arms are prohibited Dynamic with fins is the most typical of both disciplines measuring the distance in freediving, because of the specific means of propulsion : long fins or monofin. Performances could only be recognized in swimming-pools with a minimum length of 25 meters, and are sometimes considered in national or indoor's 'combiné', with the Static apnea.

Static Apnea (STA)
The freediver holds his breath for as long as possible with his respiratory tracts immerged, his body either in the water or at the surface. Static apnea is the only discipline measuring the duration, and one of the three disciplines considered for the international competitions by team, with Constant weight and Dynamic with fins. Performances could be done and recognized in both pool or open water (sea, lake, river, etc).

thank you to AIDA international.... i copy and paste from the site. :)

by virtue yes and with oxygen as the fear of blackout is present.
but first thing is for us to get a date and people to join in.
I would think that if we can get 5 people it would be a start and the numbers will grow.
So are you ON?  :)

woohoo how exciting!

take lotsa pictures or even put up a video okay??

tulip, aiyooo... how can you only do cpr to sexy lips? tut tut tut heheh. and also, when ppl blackout in general, and/or have a laryngospasm and/or a hypoxic seizure... wouldnt really think twice of sexy lips. sexy jawline maybe. kidding.

i reckon all of you guys shud go! even the nonfreedivers.

basic first aid skills wud be sufficient i think. i.e. turn someone over when BO, put face out of water, take off noseclip and goggle or take off mask, protect airway by doing chin lift with/without jaw thrust and then stroke / blow the person's face to stimulate breathing while calling out him/her. depends i think on how out-of-it the person is... sometimes half a minute with face out of water is enough, sometimes need to take him/her out and lie him/her on the floor for a few minutes. take note of vital signs i.e. heartrate, respiratory rate and glasgow coma scale during and after BO, better to keep him/her lying down, so that the blood goes to the brain easier as opposed to sitting him/her up. if needed elevate feet. it would be reassuring to think that a swimming pool would have a tank of oxygen nearby. and i think the O2 is not a must must for recovery, but for a quicker recovery. right? i think.

CPR i think would be kinda further down the track. i would reckon its when someone did a negative dive, as in fully exhale and then hold breath, and then without anybody knowing accidentally breathed in water and BO for minutes and minutes. thats when the lungs will be filled with water, then needing CPR/tulip's sexy lips. if that happens, notify lifeguard/call ambulance a.s.a.p.

and also, if that almost happen, be aware of 'dry drowning'. its when someone accidentally breathed in some water, and then felt kinda alright everything fine and dandy, but only when he/she lies down do we see the effects. because when upright, the inhaled water pools to the bottom of the lung space and when lying down, the water spreads as the lung is flatter augmenting its interference with breathing.

so far, from the few few sessions i've been to, i've only seen samba and BO +/- laryngospasm. nobody needing CPR just yet.

correct me if i'm wrong, but a samba i think is the first line of defence before dying (peripheral shutdown to redirect blood to vital organs), then a BO (because theoretically, when someone BO, he/she will fall down to the ground, hence making the brain level with the heart making the heart easier to pump blood to the brain) and at the same time as BO i think a laryngospasm to close up the trachea so that water doesnt go in. all nature's way of protecting us.

you guys can be each other's medic. question, is a valid first aid cert vital for scubadiving/freediving?

so yeah woohoo how exciting you guys are getting together!

i'll be checking in to see the updates.

adios bye ciao

50m means length larr... the discipline listed do not require depth larr.

i have spoken to the dive centre responsible for the pool and have yet to come to a date. but the proposed ones are around early november.
