STRONG WAVES ON EAST COAST THIS WEEK

Post Number:#1  Postby timyang » Wed Mar 09, 2011 11:49 am

KUALA LUMPUR: Intermittent and sometimes moderate rain occurred in several areas in the East Coast of peninsular Malaysia and it was expected to continue until today.

According to a statement from the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the areas are Pasir Puteh, Bachok, Kota Baharu, Pasir Mas and Tumpat  in Kelantan while in Terengganu the areas are Kuala Terengganu, Setiu and Besut.

The rain may cause floods in low-lying areas and those near the river banks.

The department also expected strong north-easterly winds with a speed of between 40 and 50 kilometres per hour and waves of up to 3.5 metres in the waters of Condore, Reef North and Layang-Layang, Samui (Kelantan and Terengganu), Tioman (East Johor and Pahang), Sarawak (Kuching, Mukah, Bintulu and  Miri)  and Sabah beginning today until Sunday. — Bernama

Friends....be careful! North East Monsoon is not over yet okay! The grand finale NE winds is yet to come, so be aware. Im at Coastal area in Terengganu & it's not a nice sight now  :(

Chances of getting stranded in the island is possible...keep updating those heading to East Coast Island this weekend. Received reports of "C" fishing boat sheltering in Redang Island village jetty....that bad ok.

Anyway i'll keep y'all posting of the condition

Hi guys,
Good update and now I'm worried....I know no one can actually answer this but just to console myself ....would the condition be better by the end of the month? We're a big group going to Redang from the 26-28 Mar and reading about all this conditions gets you thinking!
Thanks.

Just got back from Redang today (Tue 29th Mar) and the weather was really bad.....was suppose to leave Redang a day before but couldn't leave the island due to reports of waves up to 5mtrs high. Wave that were crashing in front of the Mutiara Resort was massive enough for us not to leave.  Woke up at 6am to very heavy rain....still strong waves. Had to be transferred to main boat by small boat. Final report, weather was horrible, dive was disappointing but the company of 25++ people (new and old friends) was great!

The winds were so strong that they also affected waves at Jarak where I was last weekend.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 (Bernama) -- A category two strong North-Easterly wind and choppy sea conditions have been forecast in the waters of Condore, Reef North, Layang-layang and Palawan until Tuesday.

According to a statement published in the Malaysian Meteorological Department website on Sunday, wind speeds of between 50 and 60 kilometres per hour with waves reaching a height of up to 4.5 metres had been forecast for the area and the weather condition was dangerous for all shipping and coastal activities including fishing and ferry services.

The Department also issued a warning of strong north-easterly winds of between 40 and 50kph and category one choppy seas with waves reaching a height of up to 3.5 metres occurring in the waters of Kelantan, Terengganu, Sarawak (Miri), Sabah (West Coast, Kudat and Sandakan), Federal Territory of Labuan, the waters of Samui and Sulu, and expected to continue until Tuesday.

The strong wind and choppy sea condition was dangerous to small boats and sea recreational activities.
