Dive Torch From China

Dive Torch From China

Post Number:#1  Postby toodus » Wed Mar 07, 2012 7:08 pm

Guys,

I work nearby Petaling Street and on the way back one day, I stopped by a stall selling laser pointers, binoculars, torches, knives, leatherman, etc - All fake stuff from China.

I saw a dive torch with LED and the price was RM70.00. The price can probably go down to RM50.00. In my last dive at Pom Pom, a DM who bought a dive torch online from China used his torch during night dive. OMG ..macam Star Wars/Luke Skywalker's  lightsaber !!!!! The beam went all the to the end and that's how we spotted the coral cat shark. I was so impressed by China made torches that I went around looking for it. Now that I've found it and I'm gonna be diving in Tenggol this weekend, should I get it? Will it flood on my first dive? Any users of China made dive torches out there?

Your input is greatly appreciated.

i say go for it, then tell us ur story. haha. :laughing11:
but frankly, some gears from china are really great, just that there is no warranty.
btw, i spot a coral cat shark in that area too, in broad day light! which is very rare!

It was surely bright enough for your night dive in Tenggol. I can vouch for it. :D

Guys,

China made torch review time !!!

On Friday during lunch time, I walked down to Petaling Street and looked for the stall I stopped 3 days before. After negotiating, he sold it to me at RM70. I couldn't bargain anymore.

Petaling Street China Made Dive Torch

The torch comes with 4 China made batteries and a lanyard. It has a heat sink to at the top and one O ring. My dive buddies made fun of me saying that it will flood on my first dive. I was prepared for the inevitable but it never flooded. My first day dive in Tenggol, I brought it down and tested it out. It was bright and I checked it out during the swimthroughs. No flooding, no malfunction. You turn the torch by flicking it to the left or right. And it came with a landyard where I hooked it to my carabiner.

The real test was the night dive which also performed very well. I made a video out of it and mind you, it was all a one man show. I videoed myself showing how effective the torch was.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlTNDQVIRC8#ws
Check out 0:25 when it switched it off and switch it back on again.

In conclusion, this China made dive torch works. The beam is amazing and it's bright. I brought it down on all my 5 dives and never once it flooded. The video says it all.

Guys, if you want to kirim beli. I can do it for you. Here's how I can do it. The price is RM80. I'm adding RM10 for my sweat and harassment as I meander through stalls and stalls of fake products whereby Banglas will grab me and try to sell me fake watches. At least 5 attempts of Banglas selling me fake watches before I get to the dive torch stall.

I work in KL and live in PJ. I can give it to you by hand. I can also do Poslaju since Poslaju is just behind my office. So let me know if you guys are interested.

Yup, that's the one.

The green light did stop blinking. I just have to remove traces of water from the contact point.

Cheers!

RM80 sounds ok.

I am assuming it takes 4 C-sized batteries?

Looks good for a secondary torch to keep in my pocket.

Sign me up for one if you're going to Petaling Street again.

I live near you in Kerinchi.

Yes . The torch uses 4 double A batteries and only one brightness level. The inside of the box says diving depth - 50m to 60m. The deepest I went in Tenggol was 24.2m. Anyone interested , do email me at yateoh@hotmail.com

it's the LED bulb is CREE brand. The rest of the material likely of poor quality and of ciplak quality. Of course design looks the same too. One have to be very open minded when buying these Petaling street products.
Toodus makes sure you test every single torch whether its on or not before buying it?
If fault can return and get a new one from Petaling Street or not? (of course before taking it for a dive)
It can be good on the 1st dive but it can be R.I.P on the next.
I bought mine RM25 but non-led. The battery spring get rusted easily. had to make a simple DIY
in order for it to operate again. So after a dive, rinse with fresh water
and put the silica into the battery compartment so that it absorbs any moisture still left in it when you
stored it.
