Hi folks, just wondering la..what would be the most effective cutting tool underwater..i've seen folks carrying dive knifes and strapping it to their legs or BC and stuff..but when i saw Snafu's shearer i was quite impressed..any recommendation or thoughts?..

I choose Dive Shear coz is easier to cut something using 1 hand ... with dive knife most of the time I would need 2 hands to work with it.

If I were to dive in an area known to have ropes .... I would have diving knife with me, if fishing line .... I would carry shears.

Sometime when I encounter with Jellyfish & I have nowhere to manuver, I would use the shear to cut the jellyfish stinging part ... trim it.

Dive Knife & Shears are tools.... carry the correct tools for the work or type of diving you be doing.

I'd go for dive shearer. I use one now. Ever since seeing someone gave a COT a haircut. But seriously, I've tried knife and shearer to cut ropes..tough ones. Dive shearer wins hands down. My dive knife was only good at gutting fish someone else speared. It's lost now after being "borrowed."

dive knife ke or shearer...up to your preference......yang penting you can get a good grip on it and the cutting edge must be sharp.....kalau tak tajam tinggal rumah aje laa..sooo..bawak batu asah sekali.

Posted this in another forum some time ago. If you dont wanna spend alot on a knife but still want something useful and are around singapore then you might wanna get your hands on this:

Its a cheap aternative to this:

Its only SGD2.00 each and I've taken it on 2 dive trips and no rust so far.

As far as its cutting action is concerned:

It could be found in the 2 dollar shop in the 2nd floor of Vivo city called Daiso. Hope this helps.

Daiso? I've been there number on times but couldn't fine lah... maybe I'll ask the sales person there.

If available, then I can buy some and bring over for you guys when I go up for the MIDE. Will let you know the outcome after my visit to Daiso.

Very good, Taufik.  Welcome to MUW. We hope you can make an introduction of yourself in the INTRODUCTIONS thread please.  Thank you.
