Tank Beautification Project

Tank Beautification Project

Post Number:#1  Postby DesertDiver » Thu May 15, 2008 12:49 am

Hola Divers,,

I've just embarked on a new hobby that compliments my scuba diving addiction. Since I got my own aluminium tank, I've begun to add some handdrawn and handpainted pictures on it. Though I've received some great comments from people, I'd like wipe the whole tank clean and start again.

Which comes to what I'm asking here... [blink]I'd like to get MUW member's feedback on what images would look really cool on it and the colours that can be used[/blink]. In short, you guys would be key contributors to the beautification of my tank.

What we'll do is agree on a time-frame - looking at a month for full completion. MUW members can provide ideas on the images up to the end of the month period. On a weekly basis, I will post pictures of the work in progress. Hows that?...

Hahaha (i think i need a new hobby) but I'm serious about this project. The month will start on the 27th of May and end on the 27th of June (coincidentally my birthday - so in a way I'm making my own birthday gift). I'll post a picture of my existing tank and every week therefrom, the WIP will be shown.

Ciao guys. Happy diving.

FYI

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nitrous oxide (aka laughing gas or dinitrogen monoxide) is a chemical compound with the chemical formula N2O. At room temperature, it is a colorless non-flammable gas, with a pleasant, slightly sweet odor and taste. It is used in surgery and dentistry for its anesthetic and analgesic effects. It is commonly known as "laughing gas" due to the euphoric effects of inhaling it, a property that has led to its recreational use as an inhalant drug. It is also used in motor racing as an oxidizer to increase the power output of engines.

Desert diver, I dont think you want that kind of gas in your tank.. you wouldn't be able to have a good dive.. hahahahaha  :D :D :D :D maybe you will get to see mermaids......

DesertDiver,
i was just wondering in terms of well, safety a bit. i am a little dense here since i think (i think only la) that tank should not be painted in case there is a crack. if there is a crack, and it's underneath the paint, you won't be able to see it.

but, anyways, i'd love to get some minimalist theme painted on my tanks.

The matt black approach would be nice. but I'd probably look for a marine theme. a bit more colour would be cool. My whole gear is black - including fins and all ... and as Shaggy / blanka will testify, in the usual murky waters of UAE, they've lost me several times. Hence, a brightly coloured tank would do well to identify me.

Here's what we'll do. You have my agreement on the matt black - the media to be used will be acrylic spray - hence a rubbery feel and texture. Additionally, there will be a stencil made based on the outline of a triggerfish. This stencil will be in a lighter black/grey and used as a background. Other images will be incorporated on top of this background using oil based paint markers( the existing media) .

I'll make a sketch of the idea and will post it here for your guys.

Hows that?

OK Gang.. sorry for the delay. Busy with my golf game on friday and all day napping on Saturday. Anyhow, please find my first draft sketch below.

I really thought that the black matt spray would look nice. However, I changed it a bit and came up with the following:-
