DivePhone: A Promising Technology

Hello EveryoneWhat if we could use our smart phones as dive computers? Our years of research chasing this idea have recently been concluded as a modular dive computing system: DivePhone. Basically it consists of;

- a housing for your smartphone
- an external module integrated to the housing that receives ambient dive related data and transmits it to the phone.
- and the software for your phone to function as an advanced dive computer.

DivePhone is currently working on the iPhone and Windows Mobile operated smart phones. Android support is expected in 2012 summer.

DivePhone is a dive computing system with various unique abilities like emergency sms feature or simultenaus display of multiple deco information from different algorithms. It is also more cost effective compared to the dive computers close to its capabilities.

DivePhone also is a potent technology because computation and display capabilities of it is limited only by smartphones' progression. We think that dive computing systems using smartphones can be a significant alternative to existing dive computers.

It's not use to call la.... :P !!

But on a serious note, do we need another device to think about housing, charging, setting up, etc?
The reason we have a dive comp is that all info is provided quick n no real effort.

If the smartphone housing leaks (maker can give guarantees but we sometime don't close the housing right, hair on o-ring, etc) we lose dive com n phone too!!

For photographers who already have so much kit to think about, I personally wouldn't be interested in taking another "smart" device UW.

My honest opinion would be to look into the commercial diving application for this. A dive company can invest in the housing n phones for their divers...

Fellas, generally I would agree to what being said. But after all the dives I had, I've seen some weird practices and stuff that divers bring with em underwater. After all, we are not homogeneous. There probably are divers out there that need to have a sort of casing for their phones during the dive.

I never want to carry my phone during a dive (I need to be at peace with the nature) but u just never know.
