IMHO backplate and wing would give u more flexibility over a standard jacket, the parts are interchangable and u can even add pockets if u like, heck u can even put a deluxe harness (like a jacket BC harness) if u want heh.. of course the downside is the price thus why i'm still on jacket heh..

To me .. I like wings... why??? Until now I never want to change back to Jacket BC. Maybe bcoz I dont have anything interupts me at my front part of body if im filming videos for example... I can feel my arm free

But as what deepblu said, you have to ask yourself what sort of diving you want to do. Maybe one day you want to do tech dive and requires you to have twin tank then a Jacket BC wont accomodate your needs.

But if you want to bring everything down, Jacket BC wit large pocket can help you a lot. And also the air that fills front and back of your Jacket BC make you stable both underwater and at the surface.

Ini from my POV .. You check with others as well la ok.

Thanks for your replies.

Noted.

1 What kind of diving?
hmmm, i dunno if i'll ever use twin tanks, just leisure diver.

2 pockets
well, it's good to have place to keep sausage, torch, slate.

I heard from instuctors that jackets have better air distribution thus better for photographers... but i also wanna hear those for back plate.

Massive Headwound, IMHO is In My Humble Opinion.

I think backplate is way to go lah! No argument already to me. I got a chance to use a jacket BC
I was in Perhentian last weekend didn't bring any of my gear. So had to use a DC equipment. For the first time in many many dives, I put on a jacket bc. Man, i was not too comfy, can really feel the drag and 'hard' to maneuver underwater.

here's a list of jacket user and now bp converts:
1. holemaster
2. hollowman
3. nazimkecik
4. deepblu

some babe divers like lara and yates both use backplates too.

those guys will tell you their opinions. Until you have tried to use both, you'll know what i mean.

Sheik, I totally agree with you that back inflated is the way to go... i started off renting the jacket BCD and i was so uncomfortable and many a times the BCD didnt fit me properly (since i am renting - you can never find one that would fit you perfectly).... I was blessed to own a OXYCHEQ back inflated BCD a few years back and i have improved my diving and i now use less weights too. NO more back ache too which is most important.....

I would recommend to get a really good BCD which would last for years.....

Snafu's diverite BCD looks like a musuem piece.... I think he must have had that bcd for at least 10 years or more

but but but but i havent said my piece yet.... :'( :'(

;D ;D ;D ;D

seriously MH, there are other things to consider apart from the tank feeling literally stuck to your back.

To add on to what the others have oredi posted here my preference for the BP/Wing is because :

-The harness is adjustable for expandable tummies and (if we all go to the gym - haha) chests.

-You can also change the wing to suit the sort of diving you want to do - a 30lb lift, if you are doing single tank and 40-80lb lift if you are doing twin tanks.

-Should anything goes wrong or breaks - like the air cell/wing puncturing due to ur dive buddy's over-zealousness in mimicking a porcupine fish with a pointer top side, you can replace the part.

Disadvantages?
Its back inflated. Should you get all excited from seeing a mermaid or whale shark and pass out on the surface, it will push u face down.

And sometimes, the crotch strap can be a bit hard on the family jewels. (but that is entirely my fault, not to mention, not relevant to u)

:)
