Buying 2nd Hand Regulator set (reg, octo & SPG)

Post Number:#1  Postby meg » Wed Jul 09, 2008 4:05 pm

People...

Need some help here. If you wanna buy second hand regulator set (reg, octo & SPG), want I need to consider?

A friend is selling his which are quite reasonable to me. Mares Abyss + Mares Proton Octo + single SPG used for 60 dives for RM1.5k.

If want to buy a new want, i'm looking at Dynamo Advanced but the reg itself cost RM1900. Not in my budget la...

hi meg

another thing for you to look out for (other than the price) when looking at 2nd hand reg sets is the date of its last service - it is usually sent in for service annually or after 100 dives (whichever comes first). And if you can charm your way into getting the seller to send the said regulator for servicing before changing hands, better still.

furthermore, the price of servicing regulators varies with different brands. so find out where (instead of having to send it to some god foresaken place where you will have to fork out the shipping and wait for months end to get it back) and how big of a hole you're gonna burn in your pockets.

meg, mares abyss is one of the high-end mares regulators. if u are seriously considering that, do ask from those who have used them.

this thread is useful: http://malaysianunderwater.com/smff/ind ... l#msg51251

Regulator & Intruments :

1) Mares Abyss 22 Regulator
2) Mares Octopus MV
3) Apollo Bio Filter & Humidifier
4) Mares Mission 2D Thermo-pressure & depth gauge
5) Mission F Compass (integrated with Mission 2D)

[snip]

i think, also, putradiver is still using his abyss.
cross check with hobby sports on current pricing for new reg with octo and spg and how much to service them.

Good luck!

You might want to declare the item as 'used sports equipment' and the 10% sales tax could be waived. But there's always the risk of lost during delivery.  ;)
So in my case, unless the price is very very attractive, it's better to get it locally from the DS, like the diveshop opposite a jamming studio in Hartamas. They have good service and very professional.  B-)

Will heartily recommend the "shop across the studio". Have always felt welcome there. They'd quite likely sort you out. Like other divers, I completed my dive gear set up there. Cheers.
