Best Way to Clean your Regs?

Post Number:#1  Postby DesertDiver » Tue May 20, 2008 1:23 am

Hi All,

Another of my queries...

what is the best way to clean your regulator? (please see below for my next Q)

I have two sets - the Conshelf XIV(Recreational Set-up) and an Apeks ATX 100 (DIR DIN). in the past, i leave the 2nd stages submerged in my bathtub or my dive box whilst the 1st stage is rinsed under a running water, making sure that the dust cap / Din cap is always pointing below (to avoid any water from seeping in).

However, just recently, I found out that I could hook up my reg to my tank, purge it underwater and leave for a few minutes or so. Sand and muck seems to clear out of the regs immediately. Would this be preferable? (you just saw my next Q).

Diving Gurus... your expertise would be most appreciated.

Yeap, hooking up the regs to a charged tank is definitely the most recommended method of flushing/cleaning ur regs, most manufacturers of regs also recommend this method, it's even written in the user's manuals, but then again, not many of us have the luxury of owning our own tank::raise hand::. So the next best thing is to soak it and rinse it thoroughly with running (warm) water.
R U wet yet?

Normally I'll soak my reg with warm water for few mins after I back home, then hang at shallow area for 1-2days, that's how my diver frens teach me  :D

Not sure abt that method of purging underwater. Doesnt seem practical. But usually what I do is purge abit on land. To clear sand and etc. Rinse it with fresh water at the DC. When im back home, i'll soak it with fresh water for a day and let it dry.
