unscrew yoke on 1st stage?

unscrew yoke on 1st stage?

Post Number:#1  Postby SuperKingKong® » Sun Sep 09, 2007 7:48 am

hey guys,

do u know of any tools that i can unscrew the yoke from the 1st stage?
my adjustable wrench is too small :P
besides, i think the yoke nut is a bit thin... so, using normal wrench might slip ... will spoil the nut.

any advices? thanks :)
cheers...

U need to use a socket wrench. Make sure u take out the Yoke Knob out and unscrew the nut by slotting ur socket from the knob hole.

SKK..... pay a bit & ask the dive shop to do it for you... very the easy...hehehehe

Hi SKK..

Send to certified technician let them do they job. Should be free.. just 2 minute work...I'm rather send to them before you ruined the tread !!! :( :(, otherwise you will pay chuck of money to get new 1st stage.

Save diving

hey bijan... it's something like this

Image

http://www.e-comusa.net/Merchant2/merch ... 20-158-500

or similar to those tools they use to open our car sparkplug... that is a socket wrench... just have to get the short version... and the stem can be separable so that u can slot in from the yoke knob hole (on top)
cheers...

hey Jim/Zaha,

yeah, i know it's an easy job for them... and they will do it for free...
i don't mind if it is near the town and easily accessible. But closest to town by public transport is about 1.5 hours and worst still... bus will go there mon-fri only.. it's sort of impossible to take bus... unless i have to rent a car... :P
i just don't know why there is not scuba shop in boston...  :crybaby2:
furthermore... it's so near the east coast.

i know there will be some torque issue here, without the right tool/certified technician doing it, problems might arise.

well, intention of this thread is to get information on how to unscrew a yoke out... :)
and thanks for the tips...

On whether i'll do it, hehehee, it's another risk i have to consider.... :P thanks for the advices...
cheers...

yeah, i'm planning to change it to DIN. how did u do it?

i tried to find to socket wrench.. all of it.. too big to go inside the "cage".
my friend use those high-end clamp (for wood cutting) to clamp on the yoke screw... and tried to turn the whole 1st stage instead.. but to no avail... it's way too tight... furture more.. the 1st stage is quite small.. so, he couldn't get a good grip. that said, the yoke screw is very very tight... is it like that? or do i need to spray some WD40 to loosen the nut?  :D

so, i'm guessing either they (manufacturer) screw it too hard or maybe i'm doing it the wrong way  :D

hmm.. to open.. is it clock-wise or anti-click wise?

guess i'll have to pay those shops a visit  [-(
cheers...

I presumed an open ended wrench will do the tricks.

Image

Example: El-cheapo MAres R2DFC reg with 25mm wrench. Hole/clamp the reg onto something and give the wrench a blow CCW.

Have fun bro...

hahaa.. thanks. i did it the right way :)

but just that ... it is so tight that it won't come loose.

btw.. is it clockwise or anti clock wise? :P

twice i slipped when i was trying with the adjustable wrench.. some damaged to the screw. the fact that the screw is very shallow and very tight... so, don't dare to do it again

as i have said.. even my friend using those industrial clamp to clamp that screw and used his big & rough hands to turn the 1st stage also cannot... see how tight lah  ;)

btw.. what is ccw?
cheers...

woohooo... i couldn't get over it :P

last nite, i went and try one more time ...hehee

i clamped it to the table... used a 10" adj wrench... using my almighty body strength by holding the wrench to by body... instead of the strength from my hand... i managed to loosen the yoke screw... woohoo!!!

i would say.. it's really really tight :( coz if i use my hand strength... it would easily slipped from the thin yoke screw... hmm.. why they don't design it thicker/higher.... [-(
cheers...

well, it's a new one... but i don't think it's "karat"  :D

just that.. the torgue is about 120lbs or more... according to the manual ..... that's quite tight rite? ... hmmm...

and i think.. if the nut is a bit thicker/higher... it's easy to just use the hand strength to "tarik" because it won't slip easily.
cheers...
