The right Fin size?

Post Number:#1  Postby wahlau » Wed Jul 09, 2008 3:51 pm

HI guys,

after seeing so many people using FF, heart got itchy and wonder if i can find something where i am now too... but a question: what is the right size?

if i have shoe size of 9/9.5, and want to use bootie, should i get L or XL then? my feeling leads me towards a XL size...

i know if i can try it it would be easiest... but beli online (ebay) tu... susah mau test lah ;)

thanks.

Use XL.... L only good for a size 8 with soft sole booties....

m using FF and my booties size 8 and FF size L.
So if ur shoes size is 9/9.5, I think XL will b just nice.

btw .. contact DIKI,  I think he has the last piece of FF size XL @ a gud discount.

not really on track but still something related.

last saturday we went for practice dive, and the dive center here was kind to borrow us 2 pairs of split fins to try. I had an atomic aquatics split fin and wifey an oceanic vortex v12. For me i do feel a little lighter with movement, though the wearing comfort is there already (the spring-on strap is superb :P). Wifey said only one thing after the dive "i think the boss succeeded in closing the deal this time".

conclusion - for divers really into serious and many more happy dives in future, split fin is the way to go. I will encourage wifey to get hers (the pair was available as second hand) while i will wait til i buy it in Malaysia :p in Malaysia cheaper right? Anyone can tell what is the current price range for the above fins?

thanks... and stay wet ;)

me and my buddy are using apollo bio fins and trust me they ROCK! on every dive, we were just like finning like fishes down there without any effort at all... our drift dive at barracuda point was amazing, we were just gliding with the current with slight finning when we want to turn, move around, up/down, or just stand there  :laughing11:

ok, some divers will argue that split fins aren't good against current but please review your OW course and you're advise not to go against current right? forget swimming against the current! don't over-exert, save your air, and enjoy the dive! don't forget that sausage tho just in case the current takes you far away from the site.  :hello:

yeah, i think the decision is not wrong... it is now on the issue of pricing - i notice some prices i read in forum are so much cheaper than the one i see here in Europe. Perhaps should just rent them until we get home, then buy in malaysia.

btw, is it not allowed to disclose prices here in forum? just curious.

wahlau, this is a forum, of course the act of disclosing prices is allowed! in fact, i think it should be freely talked about.

Hi guys,

(@mod: if i need to start a new thread, please tell me)

Thanks for the info, especially from Uncle H who runs a shop :)

i can roughly tell you the pricing i am getting here in Germany - a pair Atomic Aquatic Splitfin should cost me around say RM800+ (1 Euro to roughly RM5.10). I think if in malaysia i can get it at a much cheaper price (say < Rm500?), i rather buy it later when i get back.

only thing is to pay the rental every time we go dive :) not much but still some money...

at the comparison of RM10k+ -> RM2k+, can i assume the split fins are only RM 200+? :P

thanks.

hi Henry,

i noticed that after i joined the forum here. Now i just need to make sure when i am flying back to .my, and also whether do i want to drive all the way to KL to clear your shop up :)

thanks for the pricing. i see the differences. Now it is just a matter of working out the maths, as in how many dives i will have until i make a trip home.

cheers.
