thanks babyfin....

i've read through already.. but u all were talking about volo race/power only.

i want some comparison on volo series and quottro series... volo has hole but quattro doesn't have hole... so, i'm looking for comparison between this 2.

i used quattro b4.... but when current comes... i'll cry trying to fin.... maybe the fin is long... so, i want to know those ppl who might know the differences between this 2.

thanks.
cheers...

FKK ... I think if current exist. Nothing much that we can do.

I used volo b4 a bit soft to me, but I  can get a very smooth movement thou. Unlike quattro, a bit hard, with one kick I can go far. My ideal fin during taking video will be Mares Avanti Quattro Full Foot (long blade). Although its big, UW It helps me a lot because I can be whereever I want in split sec. In terms of technique, to avoid shaking so much, flutter kick will be the best as I can reduce the jerky movement that will ruin my shots. This is my 2 cents.

sumhow this thread dah lari topic... :icon_tongue:

using tusa platina(yellow)

pros:
1)light
save weight on travel

2)agile
very manouverable:can do reverse, frog kick, helicopter, mermaid kick, moonwalk, can even fight agaist current

3)indestructable
made frm neoprene(plastic rubber)bole campak mana2 n tak pecah

4)affordable
cheaper than forcefins or jetfins

cons:
1)less propulsion
very tiring if have to cover long distances but in my opinion can achieve same speed as other fins, sumtimes faster than splitfins n u dont have to have legs like a bull just have to cycle more, hence tiring

Fins Fins Fins...It's all up to personal preferences and their legs of course..

I have tried many fins and i want to put some comments on the fins:

I am using my trustwothy bullet proof, apollo XT(Xtra Torque). It is grey in colour, much more stiffer frm normal Apollo fin. I would say it rawks and never let me down in any current situation. Can use it to do good maneuvering, frog kick, flutter, modified frog or whatever kicks. I have followed a FORCE FIN use before in Manado with same pace of frog kick, and the speed is almost the same.  :D

Cons: It's big, its heavy, and the profile of the fin made it not so good to dive in tight space(hole, cave, wreck or whatever)

Force Fin: Small fin, but unbelivable fast, and good maneuevering. But must be able to know to kick with this fin because it takes a different technique to frog kick with this fin. Light fin and very easy to pack.

Con: Damn Expensive!!

Jet Fin: small profile, heavy, but superb maneuvre. Corner like a sports car. Can do any kind of kick.

Con: If current comes, big problem, will get cramp. Doesnt seem to work well with flutter, cause it is very stiff.

I have tried many more fins, but they are all amost the same. some stiffer, some softer, but above are the 3 of the best fins that i like. It's up to personal preferences whether they have strong legs, lazy legs, or whatsoever.

Some pictures to make you day.

My collection, bear in mind I'm an aged ex-cowboy diver  :D, also for the benefit of those who might want to offer me $$$ for my jewels!  ;).

Image

From the left ..

I started off with my trusted full foot Cressi Rondine X, can you believe that pair is about 17 years old and its still good to go. "Rubber jus aint wot it used t' be". It was cheap then. Its heavy, but just not as heavy as the Apollo Bio. A bitch to fin with but before the Force Fins I thought they were the fastest however guaranteed to cramp your calves.

US Divers open heel fins unsure which model, pvc, light and handy, only one that floats.

Ahhh .. the Apollo Bio Fin Pro. Heaviest on land, the least effort in water. Trust the Japanese to come out with this gem. Until today I still get the feeling I'm getting nowhere with this if I fin with my eyes shut.

Lastly, the family jewels, FF Clasic (L), FF Pro (L) and FF Pro (XL). What can I say but that you have not experienced finning to the fullest if you have not used a Force Fin. Bloody expensive though. Any offers?

Started with Cressi Sub Master Frog until got stolen in Perhentian a few years back. Replaced with Cressi Sub Reaction. http://www.cressi.it/2009/SchedeVedi.asp?id=331

Pros: long, stiff & light
Cons: none

Regarding swimming against current, the best option is not to do it, just go with the current. If you're close to the guide just get his/her attention & suggest that the whole group should go the other way. Swimming against current can lead to other problems such as low air, anxiety & stress that could lead to panic and exhaustion that can contribute to DCS.

If you absolutely have to go against current, do like what the fish does, stay close to the bottom or hide behind a rock. Current sometimes vary in strength, so wait until it slows down a bit (watch the anthias or small fish) then swim to the next rock. Move forward by hopping from one rock to the next.

when going against current.. i tend to resort to crawling.. since the surface where there are current are all rocks and no corals..

i know, its no good touching this and that.. but with my split fins, i just cant swim against current..
