OK to all "Fins" and members online, lets discuss on why and what type of fins u choose to dive with?

Response should include the pros and cons of ur chosen fins. U can discuss more than one fins that u own....

Once again, NO OFF TOPIC REPLIES..Cheers!  ;)

My comments:

1) my 1st fin - Tusa Liberator. Pro... Vely the cheap. Cons... Vely flimsy. In current, was push back instead of fwd.

2) my 2nd fin & still using it - Seac Sub Twin Effect Full Foot. Pro... Another cheap fin. Good propulsion against current. Easy to wear. Cons... When walk on hot sand, feet vely painfull oooo

3) my 3rd fin - Scubapro Jet Fin. Pro... Can do fwd, reverse, helicopter, propellor & whatever kick i want. Cons.... expensive ooooo

Holey, may I attempt a post to your starter?

I am not that savvy when it comes to all these gears...

Short of sounding like an airhead, i am going to say that i use a Mares Power Plana and it is PINK!!

Had it for 9 years and never felt the need to change it. Works great!!

I am currently using an original imitation Jetfin with spring heel.

Before, it was the atomic aquatic splits, mares quattro (full foot) and 2 tusa platinas

Original Imitation Jetfin
Pros
Superb propulsion. One kick can take you to kingdom come. (Force Fin users may contest this... heh)
Can do helicopter kicks, frog kicks, reverse kicks, "corner baring"(sharp cornering) kick with these fins.
Kung Fu kick oso can.

Cons:
Its made of 100% rubber, hence can get heavy.
Because its "original imitation", the fins are also a tad bit stiff compared to the original - making you prone to getting cramps (spazm n shafi can attest to that)

Atomic Aquatics Spllit Fins :
Pros:
Fast. light.

Cons:
Works only when you do small kicks.
Tricky to do frog kicks and helicopter, etc
Braking not so power (need to add ABS)

Mares Quattro
Pros:
Fast. Light.

Cons:
Long, may take up space in the dive bag.

TUSA Platinas
Pros:
Cheap. Agile.
Ideal for beginners/newly certified OW divers.

Cons:
Must have legs the size of a bull to propel.

I use US Divers/Aqualung Rocket fins

Pro
1. Very powerful glide effect
2. Sturdy construction, full rubber, one made to last a lifetime. Runover by truck and it stays the same.
3. Heavy, therefore carrying weight effect
4. Easy to maintain.

Con
1. Heavy for beginners; calfs will ache after first few dives
2. Not suitable for travel because of its weight.
3. Quite expensive

Erm..

Chosen Fins:Atomic Aquatics Splifin

Type of Fins: Splitfin

I tried my cousin's during my open water certification and i liked it.. Since my instructor gave me quite a good deal on it, so i bought it..

During my open water, i used technisub stratos fins..compare it to the splitfins, i would say that u spend less energy for the same amount of propulsion with the splits.

Kinda weird tho using frog kicks with atomic splitfins since its rather long..so each time u kick, one fin might langgar (clash) with the other..

Only that i can think of as of now..will add later if something comes up

first two fins i dun wanna comment...hehe.....seacsub hyper-X and mares quattro excel....

my favourite would be the black force fins(R) pro wif bungee strap.....i love it simply bcoz it is light, small, easy to handle, powerful propulsion, easy to pack, able to do stunts UW (helicopter, reverse, etc), easy to put on (especially wif the bungee cord), not having problem walking wif the FiNs on, will last me for life (if i dun loose one of them la)!!!.....

disadvantage : should be the price lar....but it's all worth it.... hehe.....

Me....I'm on Scubapro Jet fins (of course with RNT custom made spring straps)....my favourite (dulu, kini & selamanya)..(past,present & future).
The only fins that i own. Quite satisfying....at the moment.

Pros:
Easy to meneuver. Perfect for frog kick lover. Also goes for flutter kick.
Agile & short..."Compact" is the right word.
Last long.....My colleague has been using it for 12 years & still in good shape..
Can do heli kicks & reverse too...Don't forget to shift to "R" gear.
Easy to wear, no effort...tks to the spring straps, meaning no more spare straps!!!

Cons:
Since it is made from 100% Rubber hence it's quite heavy. Only for those who has strong leg.
Stiff
Looks Ugly....Urgh!!!!
Expensive.....(me...still paying the installment coz I bought it via soft loan)
Comes only in one color, BLACK.....damn no PINK!!!!!

Overall rating.....SUPERB!!! Gitteww.....

1st set - Apollo Bio fins. Err short of sounding like a ditsy head.. I bought them coz they're pink.. Read online review before buying em and was told that they're good for braving the current. I find it erm not so true. Had difficulty in that area.. one side even came off during a dive with super strong current! However, if there's no strong current, a simple swift finning would propel the diver forward. No need to kick the scissor kick like mad.

2nd set - Blue Force Fins - Love it to the max. I echo Mocha's view on the fins. They're marvelous. Small, easy to pack, can walk with it, and they're super fast, effortless... a very good buy.

Hey All!!!

As for me, I am currently using Cressi Sub Frog FINs.
Material : Technopolymer (Malaysians call it plastik).
Colour : Black/Grey with no hint of pink at all.

Pros:
Light and agile.
Propels perfectly for my frog kicks and Smooth too (with brazillian, even smoooother).

Cons:
Foot pocket is a bit snug. Too snug that i have a little problem removing them after my dives but I get by.

Overall, I love my fins!!!

Cheers!

Current propulsion system in my inventory as follow:

Image

Speedo Power Paddle.

Good for developing upper body and arm muscle. Difficult to drive for the begginers. For diving, must know how to do hands free equalization...heh.

Image

Scubapro Veloce Club Full Foot.

Cheap and cheerfull fins for begginers. i still use it as my spare or close proximity diving. made out of cheap plastic. will warp through time.

Image
Hello Boys...

Imersions JB Esclapez.

My full time fins for scuba and freediving. best!!! hard profile blades are powerfull but can be taxing on begginers. powerfull when driven with dolphin kick.
foot pocket are comfortable and blades are very durable.

babe and speargun optional.

Image

a monofin. powerfull and fast. no stereofins can catch it. not even my esclapez. good for quarter mile standing. bad for chicane. still learning to drive this fin. monofin swimmers has been clocked at 3 meters per second. nothing short of an outboard motor can catch it..

Future investment:

Image

Imersion Esclapez Azur.

I want this. but cannot source it on the net...still searching. a good compramise between full freediving fins and scuba fins. a good no bullshit fins...i hope...
and the ultimate stereofins...

The C4 Mustang carbon fibre fin.......

Image

Carbon fiber fins, lateral side rail and adjustable foot pocket...light and powerfull.

i'm still using my old el-cheapo Genesis Scuba Response fins...

pros: it's cheap and do the job, provide me propulsion underwater

cons: it's a bit sturdy n doesn't work so well for surface swim... and it's a bit fragile, already broke the clip :(

FORCE FINS PRO
Image
Colour:Yellow (not PINK)

Size: L - yes i have big feet for a small girl.. I am somewhat cacat (disable)

Where to purchase? www.forcefins.com
(but i got mine from katakpink  :-* who was kind enough to purchase from MIDE and sell it to me.. apparently force fins are OUT OF STOCK in USA)

Why i love my fins?
1)Easy to pack.. being a girl and having to carry your own diving bag is hard.. so when your fins are light and easy to pack.. it is an added bonus.. means you can bring more clothes to do a fashion show on your diving trips..
2)Easy to put on ... i can just put on my fins on the boat without much effort "on my own" and walk around the boat with no hesitation that i will flip over
3)Easy to fin .. because of the lightness of the fins.. you tend to forget that you have fins on your feet... although it may look small in size with the right technique used when finning you will understand how fast you can maneuver and fight currents better.
4) NO MORE CRAMPS for me..... HOOORAY!!!
5) COLOUR ... so that i am able to be found in case of emergency..the bright yellow can been easily noticeable....

Currently using XS Scuba Jet Fins with Spring Heel Strap
Pros:
- Made from 100% rubber, as such its very durable and generates a lot of power and propulsion
- Works really great with frog kick. Also find it easy when doing flutter, modified flutter and modified frogkick
- Short based design, therefore easy when packing in dive bag
- With spring strap makes it so easy when donning compared to the standard heel rubber strap. Also increases comfort and allows you to avoid adjustments when you switch from one type of wet suit boot to another.
- Price is affordable (i know Scubapro's are expensive)

Cons:
- Heavy (not as heavy as Scubapro's), need strong legs for good results. Not recommended for beginners

I use Appollo BioFIN..

Pros:
100% rubber (I think) thus feels light underwater
Good propulsion, calves do not ache so much
Good for beginners who do not have strong leg muscles

Cons:
Maneuverability is perhaps bit lacking.

May want to change but 1st no money, 2nd haven't tried others that suits me better (I have poor calf muscles- need to work on that)

Im using Fullfoot Mares Avanti Quatro Excel & Mares Avanti Tre. A superb fins to me. Not so hard and not to soft.

Pro :
Its only RM 200.00 for Avanti Quatro and Avanti Tre its only RM 130 ( during Hobbyspot Sale) Me the al cheepo
Very light for travelling especially on Air Asia
Current - so far so good. Survive in Macha Rocks hehehehe

Cons :
would be better if they make it longer.
In the beginning when I started using it Ive got some blisters.

As said in the previous topic about finning technique. Regardless the brand and type of fins, its the bouyancy that play a major role in finning. So dont think so much about fins. Bouyancy is the key.  My se-posens  ;) ;) ;)

As wrote on my fins "Catch Me If You Can"

Currently I'm using Cressi Reaction & Cressi Reaction

Pro : Mares Avanti Tre – Light and easy for traveling. Comfort with my foot size….Simply like it!!
Cressi Reaction – Good propulsion, not too hard and not too soft

Cons : Mares Avanti Tre – Blister during beginning….after all ok!!
Cressi Reaction – Not really comfort with the foot pocket. A bit heavy to maneuver

..............comfort first = comfort works..................... ;)
.....let's get wet and blow some bubbles.......!!!
