Toodus Learned New Shooting Technique at Anilao

Post Number:#1  Postby toodus » Mon Jul 15, 2013 2:55 pm

After 2 years of shooting with my basic compact camera and not obtaining the results that I want, living in uw photo fantasyland and also too egoistical to ask from other uw photographers whose photos are just so so, I knew I had to learn from the best. Thus, I travelled far and long to Anilao to learn from the Godfather of Compact Camera Underwater Photography - Mr Tim Ho. And he imparted his awesome knowledge to me. Just like Mr Miyagi and the Karate Kid. Tim is not as old as Mr Miyagi but he's getting there.

Anyway, with my 6 year old Panasonic Lumix DMC FT1 which has no manual settings, no strobes, no macro lens, not using flash, no Photoshop/Lightroom, no cropping and just using a small torch, he thought me how to shoot subjects with the results below :

A Pair of Coleman Shrimps

Peacock Mantis Shrimp

Emperor Shrimp

Goniobranchus Huatenensis

I never knew with just a small torch and some changes in the settings, I was able to achieve award winning photo results. Small torch and camera settings aside, the truth is that it all boils down to the abilities of the uw photographer.. and I have to say that I possess the natural talents and skills of a bulletproof tiger underwater photographer that even DSLR guys envy.

I soo agree with run. A slight of humbleness will get you somewhere. Your photos are still so-so anyways. With more practice, definitely you'll get your million dollar shot one fine day. ;)

Torch Tim Ho pinjamkan...Illuminox brand....Do you know where to buy? I regret buying the China made torches. Because you never know when the torch will fail and it is 100% the torch will fail....My advise is, if going to an exotic dive trip, bawak China made torches as spare and spare only....
