Both operators share the same House Reef Dive site....superb!

Does Scuba Junkie Mabul offer free house reef dive like SWV?
They dont offer unlimited dives at House Reef.

Hi, I still dont understand what mean by 'free house reef dive' , i know in front of SWV got a house reef and I saw many  divers jump from the deck. When they say its 'free' we only pay for equipment and tank rental and no guide with us...?

Free house reef dive mean that you can do your own diving at your free time. In SWV case, they usually provide you with 3 boat dives per day and after that you are free to do house reef dive provided that you have a buddy to go with you. No extra charges from our original package, just find a buddy suited up and jump. They don't provide you with a guide but you can ask for one for a price. Night dive also will be charge at RM50 per dive if I am not mistaken.

SWV house reef is a good dive site as it is flat with little or no current at all. Plenty of macro stuffs to see and shoot. You can follow the reef toward the Borneo Diver jetty but be prepare for some current which can be a bit strong at time.

Don't forget to walk around the island, which will take around 30 minutes, just to complete your trip. If you are looking for a T-shirt, SMART have a better choices and variety.

couldn't agree more on terjuntiruk, they charge for night dive coz they have to standby dm at the DC just to make sure we comeback from our night dive safe & sound & for that price maybe plus dive torch.
hopefully next year the house reef still nice hehe..... :D

oh so scuba junkie dont offer free-unlimited house reef dives...no wonder all the ppl sit around reading books. i was wondering why the caucasians were reading books when we were jumping in with our cameras. come all the way here to read books? now i know.

yeah the above posts are accurate, we paid for night dives. for the reason mamakpenang gave.
alamak, the tank goes at the back??

@terjuntiruk @mamakpenang @decimal86 : thanks. now I understand... :)
As a new diver I don't have confident to dive without dive master (or guide from the DC)... if I go with my buddy which is also new.... I don't know which way to go and how to go back at the starting point...
this time me and buddy will have to use surface marker our self right? and  we also must do 3min safety stop right?

don't worry if u don't have dive comp, the SWV house reef is around 8-10mtr, it is very safe to dive from SWV house reef to Borneo Divers jetty/dive center with depth gauge and timex or g-shock watch you will be ok, let say u start at 200bar & when u reach Borneo Divers jetty you left with 100bar then it is time to make a u turn back to SWV house reef, or u can come up at Borneo Divers jetty (watch out for boat at the surface when u come up) if you air finish early or sometimes the weather get rough & ask for a taxi (boat) to go back to SWV hehe......
during ur check out dive your DM will show u around the house reef.

o i c... ok my personal opinion is to do what is safe and will not deter you from diving ever again!!

when you are at SWV, there is a very clear map of where the DC is and where paradise I is....do not go further that. when you cross the lane between SWV and Scuba Junkie it can be hazardous as the villagers use that lane for their boats and if it is low-tide, it could be trouble.

there is enough to see and shoot at Paradise I...so get up some confidence and go on your own between the DC and the coconut clump where the madarin fish lives! it is a straight line and u will be in a protected area within SWV. it is all sand, so hard to pick out landmarks, yeah it is shallow, by the time u fin back to the jetty it will be safety stop over. you have your analog depth gauge and a timer right? good enuff!

one look at the whiteboard and u will know that its do-able. and as the seniors here said, keep a watchful eye on your press gauge! keep your partner in sight ALL the time! you have to dive on your own to gain confidence but all the disciplines of scuba must be maintained.

it is peak season, i am sure you will see a steady flow of divers from SWV to the coconut clump and back.

I went on my own dive to Paradise 1 for the first time. Been to Paradise 1 before but always with a DM. Since this was my first time staying in SWV, I tried to go to the SWV artificial reef where the frog fishes are. The first time I couldn't find it and my navigational skills are really bad. I didn't panic but I decided not to go further. My guidance were the buoys and lines at the surface of the water.

The next day I went with my dive buddy and were able to know where's where. After that I went alone and was able to navigate pretty confidently. At the artificial reef, saw 2 frogfishes, Papuan cuttlefish, fimbricated morays and the treasure of P1 - the flamboyant cuttlefish. It was really nice to be alone and taking photographs of these marine creatures.  Also, while moving towards the reef, I saw my first eagle ray. Caught it on video.

At 4pm I went there again and this time, there were other divers. Visibility was bad as there were too many divers around the artificial house reef.

Anyway, will post a report on my 5D 4N SWV report soon.

yep.. worry not about not having a dive comp although to have one helps. When i was there, i was just using my faithful G-Shock. However, if u r into repeatitive dives, dive comp will become handy (as explained in most OW courses).

Just enjoy the dive and the beautiful breezy scenery. Me will be making a comeback next year. Hopefully in May.

Beware of thermocline.. it can be quite cooolllddd..  :D

Totally agreed with the rest here. You need to try the buddy dive to gain confident but as bro decimal86 said you need to keep safety as you priority. In SWV, they will always take you for orientation dive in the house reef. Get yourself familiarize with the reef and it landmark (or lack of). They have drawn a good map of the place. Get your buddy into the water and explore the place.

You can do your safety stop will exploring the reef. Personally never need a safety stop coz usually spend more than 10 minutes exploring at 5-6m. You can check the front of scuba junkie, usually there are a few morays from various species with some cleaner shrimps. Even under the SWV jetty itself there are a few willing lion fishes ready for photo session.

After that, you can just pop up to finish you dive at the jetty and walk up the stairs.

Love the house reef dive.
