SMV is definitely good but will burn a big hole in your pocket! But then again you get what you pay! Worth contacting all the dive operators to compare price and services.

I don't know about others but i do like SWV. I find it very relaxing in comparison to a few other similar resorts. Love to go back to SWV although i'm also considering other homestay. Many suggested Big John and Billabong. Well, keep us posted!

tq for all the reply.. i'm looking for a resort type of accomodation.. cant stay in homestay style as also celebrating anniversary (dont want to face the wrath of wifey)..  :icon_tongue:

so far.. i've contacted kapalai resort, swv, mabul beach resort, borneo divers beach resort.. and their price ranges from 3020 to 5580 for the whole 4d3n for 2 diver package..

i've also email seaventures dive resort but they have not reply back yet..

any sifus out there have any experience in any of this resort? are their price worth it?

Hi Arms, my advice is better to stay in SMV. Your wife will love you and you will definitely have plenty more green light from wifey to go diving! Better spend wisely..... don't play play! It's ANNIVERSARY man!

Hi arms.

Maybe you can try uncle chang. Uncle chang have a nice place to stay with reasonable price. recently, uncle chang upgrading his resort, make it even nicer to stay.

if you want cheap, choose Big john scuba. cheap and friendly people. Got my license there.

But, since it was your anniversary with your wife, i recommend SWV. worth the price. and you can dive all you want to at the house reef nearby.

Comin in at 15 -18th sept? well, any chance... i'll see you there. ;)

SWV is a good choice, they have a nice chalets and one of the best foods on the island. House reef diving is also not bad. Enjoy the re-honeymoon  :) .

I miss SWV. The housereef is nice. Plenty to discover during a dive at the housereef alone.

sure. I teaching here in semporna. This weekend i might be around in mabul island, bringing my friends for sightseeing.  ;)  I might be around  snorkling within scuba junkie area. so if you meet a beard guy with Malaysia football team jersey. Say hello! :)

If you plan to dive at sipadan, I encouraged you to book earlier with the resort. What I heard recently, they are limiting the permit which is now only 6 guests per day. have a nice trip. ;)

i have been to Sipadan twice and both times i stayed with SWV. just came back...and they remem me!! i did not have to fill out the usual form just the indemnity.

ok, the house reef is now teeming with foto opportunities. the food is still shiok..friday night is BBQ nite! one night they had deep fried crab and they were serving cut mangoes as well so i whack properly both these items...super shiok!

if you drink, then it would be cheaper to buy a bottle before you jump on the boat at Semporna. my bar bill was a little heavy...know what i mean??

congrats on your anniv and have a great holiday!!
alamak, the tank goes at the back??

Hi... I did my OWC in Mabul... I stayed at Mabul Backpakers (RM65 per night. lol.) which is just next to Sipadan-Mabul Resort (SMART)... SMART is awesome... nice sand, many coconut trees and nice garden.

SWV is nice resort and many nice fishes under the bungalow... you can see medium size parrot fish eating around small coral, some kind of needlefish and many2 orange and blue-ish starfish.

I dont know Sipadan-Mabul is the same with Sipadan Water Village..? is it different entity..? because it seem connected. they got normal chalets on land.... but no doubt both are 1st class resort in the island.

I dont know the 4-5star resort dive rate.... is it same as normal DC..? my DC I stayed (Mabul Backpackers) is RM100e and sipadan RM200e.

i stayed in a std chalet both times and the neighbours were not able to see into our chalet, you know what i mean? heheheh

#120 was the one i rqsted, pretty priv in view. got fridge there so can buy soft drinks and chill them.

no air-cond!! but with fan on, it was bearable.

hmm one thing i did notice was these days, got the kids from the village trying to sell fish/squid or just plain begging for money, i suppose we should not encourage them? food i will give but not money.

#120 is very far from from the dive centre and dining hall...so if u give away the privacy and stay at chalets closer to the DC and dining hall, it will be less of a chore. or bring a set of dry clothes and shower at the DC, they have hot water...then you won't have to walk all the way back to your chalet. they do not allow wet attire in the dining hall. there is a minimart just across the dining hall. usual tid-bits, T shirts are better at the airport when you fly back to KL...i bought a couple of items there and found out that it was cheap as well.

first things first, when you get there, the priority is to dive Sipadan right? ( aiyah romance later-lah.....)

my advice is to do an early morning, dive at Sipadan, say 0530 hrs departure from SWV? but it is worth the getting up. thats when you will get up close and personal with the bumpheads!! and you can cover the barracudas later on your second dive.

and if you go on the early morn dep...bring food...the kitchen only opens at 0630 hrs. after your bumphead adventure, your stomach will be calling when you do your surface interval. mine is a real dinosaur at b fast time!

check, then double check your gear before moving off to Sipadan, twice our group forgot something. i forgot my fins!! (confessions) there is not much chance of them turning back cuz its a 25 min boat ride. when waters are calm, if the seas are choppy it could be 45mins.

the other spots are closer to SWV, so no problems there. there is a mating pair of mandarin fish at the house reef, i thot they would be doing their mating ritual but no luck for me...maybe you will have more luck?

thats all i think? have fun...and show us some pictures when you are free? oh yeah, Wi-Fi is avail and free but only at the lobby. sadly...

the DM's will prob ask you and yr wifey to perform a check-out dive. the usual--remove mask and put back on...take regulator out and put back (remem to tell yr wifey to breathe out first before taking gulp of air?)

its near where the mandarin fish are. so you may want to bring yr camera along for yr check out dive? never know, these marine creatures are so spontaneous.

you will prob arr SWV at urmmm..... 11 something? they try to give you value for money so they might ask you to do a check out at 12? eat lunch then go out on the 2.30 boat?

thats what happened to us both times. i appreciate that. but hungry after that....bring some food from Semporna, there is a shop next to the jetty that sells beer and soft drinks. and some bread.

pack 2 bags if possible...one for the room and ask the porter to send one to the DC,in that case when you check-in and later check-out it will be easier. you will be given 2 lockers in the DC and we have left our iPhones inside and nothing was stolen.

G12 eh? you will have lots of opportunities to share and learn, there were 5 G12's when i was there in Aug?

oh, when you are at the DC ? beware there is a sea snake that comes to visit once in a while, so far no one has been bitten yet...how big? 3 feet? just so you know...i am not kidding. ask the DM's

it lives in the cement block underneath. i think its ok...we came to see sea creatures right?

SWV is perhaps the only resort that has the most space for drying your wet clothes. both inside and out. oh if rain is forecast, u might want to pack an umbrella. somehow they do not have brollies in their rooms. they provide slippers  so u wont need to bring one. the one with the strap between the toe.

found out something, bring 2 SD cards. we ended up shooting videos of the bumpheads and baracudas and it takes up a lot of memory. the vis was not good so still shots did not turn out well.

Me & Adzri ( adik ) been here since September 19th...we will be at Scuba Junkie Mabul ( next to SWV ) till October 15th.
Paradise 1 is teaming with 3 Frogfishes now..1 shaggy & 2 Warty at the structure. Also a Flamboyant Cuttlefish. An Ornate ghost pipefish is camouflaging around Junkies House Reef as well. Try look for a pair of Broadclub Cuttlefish at Paradise 1...experience their mating process last week.

If you're in a budget trip try Scuba Junkie...quite busy with students & daytripers from Semporna...comfy rooms Ala backpackers hangout...food ok ...FYI they don't serve seafood here which happens to be their policy.....chicken  / veggie / eggs only.

If you want dive holiday treatment try SWV...as mentioned by earlier posts from members which is true about their Friday Night BBQ. babyFin is organizing a trip to SWV on January 2012..sounds like Party!

Both operators share the same House Reef Dive site....superb!
