Great shot of the shark!! Did you get that while snorkelling at bubbles house reef???

What camera are you using???
Good education leads to good conservation!!

In future perhaps you could add your pix spec EV, f, and etc that way other sifus can add their personal spec
as a guide for you.

That blacktip is a juvenile? coz it's size looks small judging from the corals.

You must be not that deep.Your turtles are great even w/o flash you manage to get clear picture only the colors are saturated. Perhaps you change its setting filter to red or using pc hence more greyish color.

thanks for your comments..

the blacktip is a juvenile, and one of the 'residents' at bubble's house reef.. and yes, i shot them while snorkeling.. including the grumpy nemo..

for the green turtle.. i did my best at the red filter and during the PP of the photo.. it was taken at a distance, before editing you can hardly see the shark..

I am using Canon's G11 with its canon underwater housing.. cant afford strobes at the moment.

as per your request, added the pic's exif data next to the images itself.. looking forward to advise to improve my photo skills..

umm, jst dont ask me to shoot in manual.. tried it.. by the time im done setting shutter speed & F-stop, the moment is gone.
as for custom white balance via a white board.. i tried it and the effect is superb.. but i have too many things tied to my BCD, so i adjust white balance on photoshop instead.. i shoot in raw.

[if only i can afford a casing for my dslr, then shooting in manual will b a piece of cake.. and white balance as well..]

taking the picture without the strobe is always tricky. Just by looking at the lcd screen underwater wont be enough. All you need to do is practise by taking lots of picture with different setting on the same subject. That way once you surface, you review your pictures and you see which setting satisfy you the most.

There is a rules of thumb on the aperature for underwater but i forgot. :) (i rarely hold the camera).
try reading this
http://www.uwphotographyguide.com/canon-s90-g11-underwater-settings
and also this
http://www.uwphotographyguide.com/underwater-photography-changing-settings-dive. (this is with a strobe but can try to test the skill)
I remembered a dive member suggested me to on the histogram underwater if i want to see the correct
lighting chart. Other than that when taking the picture of any subject is to focus on the subject eyes and for nudi to focus on their sput (the two pointer on nudis head..sorry i still havent learned my scientifict nudis name).
I learned about this trick too

another tip if you want attention from a turtle to look directly to u. Try wiggling your fingers. It will attract their attention. Well not most of them.
I think when i wiggle my fingers it almost looks like their jelly fish meal.
Just be careful not to let them snap your fingers off like what happen to a DM in thailand. A moray snap of his
thumb thinking it was a hotdog. Very famous in youtube.

In picture 1, you can see that your flash is somewhat strong on the right (the reef on the right is the obstacle that is closer to your flash) and light bounces off which made your pic looks more yellowish and contrast a bit.
1)Try to move a few cm away from the subject or
2)you change your angle or
3)you reduce the intensity of the flash.

These 3 methods will give you 3 differents settings. Once you get to familiarize with the setting in auto, it will
be easy for you to master in manual. Though someone told me avoid using auto.
Well i am not a pro like the rest of the photographers who make a living taking photos. So my tips are so-so
but better have something then nothing at all :)
