Tunku Abdul Rahman Park - Dec 2012

Diving in TARP could be a love or hate relationship. There is a need to set the expectations of a diver when it comes to diving in TARP. Don't expect to see pelagics and don't expect to see macros as well. In TARP, you have to find , find , find, search, search and search for what you want to see.

As for me, I am a nudi lover. So, I scoured every surface of the TARP and after 7 dives, I managed to find two nudis which I have not seen before and for me, that is a good dive. It differs for most people.

The sun was shining bright and blue in KK but the viz was bearable only. Maybe 10 to 15 metres.

I dived in Edgell Patches, Agill Reef,  Sulman Reef, Manukan House Reef, Sulug Reef and 2 night dives. Night dives are good in TARP but many operators don't do night dives.

Anyway, here are the pictures :

evil OUC eyes. red devil.
Its easy to distinguish the difference between a stonefish and scorpion fish (although they are from the same family tree)
Stonefish has a mr meaner look that looks as grumpy as a bulldog. A face a mother only could love.
The shape is like ur fist round at front and then become smaller till reach its tail fin. It blends really really with rocks.
Likes to hide under a table coral.
Got to hand it to who ever created the hand signal for the stone fish.
The signal i learned was as simple as mimicing a person smoking weed hehehe.
I always love to show this sign to my buddies whenever i saw one

Thanks for the rep Toodus.

Hi Toodus,
May I know with which operator did you go and where you go for the night dive?
At this moment the viz is not good and the water is a bit green. Good for you that you saw a few new nudis in TARP.

I dived with Nev from Liquid Adventure Seasports in KK (http://www.diveliquidadventure.com/)

This DM makes an effort to find marine creatures for you and the only one in KK that does night dives.

Hi toodus,

Just seen you post about your December diving trip to TARP. Very nice photos and some lovely nudibranchs! Say 'Hi!" to Nev - we bump into him in TARP.

Glad you enjoy diving the coral reefs here in KK. There's a surprising range of marine life to see. I saw a Cobia, a pelagic that can be mistaken for a shark, on my weekend dive and a school of dolphins earlier in January. You can check out photos on our facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Borneo-Dream-Travel-Tours-Sdn-Bhd/57415511268?fref=ts).

Typically the nicest vis in TARP is at the start of the Dry season (mid March through to June). We can get lovely vis throughout the rest of the year but it depends on weather and sea state.

Enjoy your diving and maybe see you in TARP!
