Let's Play Puzzles - Trimix Dive to 65m

Post Number:#1  Postby John F SeaDemon » Tue Mar 13, 2007 8:19 pm

You are required to plan a dive to 65 meters in bad visibility and extremely strong current using Trimix 18/33. You will be using a twin-set OC 12L each, a 12L deco stage tank with EAN50, and a 12L deco stage tank with O2. Your SAC rate for this dive is 18 liters per minute because of strong current.

Plan:

1. Your maximum time at depth
2. Rock bottom gas
3. Your first deco stop depth

Bro .. I would use the mix gas for my travel gas & bottom gas.

EAN50 ... 22m would be my first stop with it.... 100% O2 starts at 6m & next is 4.5m last stop.

As for bottom time & deco stop .... I dont know coz I have not plan the bottom time yet  ::)

I dont know what is the pressure in my Twins... cant work out the Max time with it.

If the dives going to be low visibility ... I would just ABORT it & chill on deck.... Helium is not cheap  :D

;D

Hahaha..sorry bro. I missed that one out.  Let's say for every single tank the diver carries, the pressure is at 200 Bar.

With that SAC rate, you only have around 35 mins at that depth to finish off all the back gas...... Probabaly would do 15 or 20 mins bottom time

Hahaha..sorry bro. I missed that one out.  Let's say for every single tank the diver carries, the pressure is at 200 Bar.

Free Liter of Mix Gas is 4800L on surface ..... so at that depth pressure 7.5ata & with the SAC of 18L, that be 35 minutes Bottom time till my Mix gas runs out  :D

EAN50 ...12L ... Free Liter Of EAN50 is 600L (200Bar)
- 22m ... 3.2ata

100% Oxygen ... 12L ... Free Liter Of 100% O2 is 600L (200Bar)
- 6m ... 1.6ata

From the above information, I will cut few tables .... bailout time, actual dive time & extra dive time

Cant provide the detail information in here as it might give some divers idea to follow it & get into trouble.

;D

Yeah..if the diver's diving alone, 11 minutes bottom time before commencing ascent. 5 minutes maybe a ballpark figure if diving with a buddy.

Bro .. I would use the mix gas for my travel gas & bottom gas.

Bro, I know some agencies treat 18% to 24% as normoxic (me, I'd put it at 21%), but in my understanding 18% would be hypoxic until 5.5 ATA. Is it okay to use a Trimix 18/33 as travel gas? I was thinking more of another cylinder (maybe a pony size) with air to travel to 45m and then switch to the 18/33 in this case.

Share with us your thoughts, please.

If you dont mind carrying extra cylinder of AIR for travel gas & do switch at depth ... sure, why dont you switch at 50m or 55m or 60m? You get clear mind as soon as you do the switch BUT for ascend you can switch at 50m 0r 45m on AIR .. you wont get O2 toxicity but might experience sudden shock from Narcosis hit.

18/33 as travel gas ... why not? You can breath it on surface, and survive.

;D

Hahaha...quite true. A dose of 50% always point out to me that I don't have problems with my eyes.

I wonder how many forumers are now curious to know what is this we've been talking about. ::)

Share your 10% of it .... Is all about gas, % of gas, pressure & can do Partial Pressure too

That's true...in the end, the bulk of it is the Pressure-T. 8-)

my brain works in binary only..... (read my signature down there...heheh)... so 10% is not much la.....

Hmm..I think for this dive, if you were to stay at depth (65m) for 26 minutes after a 4-minute descent from the top would require between 66 to 68 minutes of staged decompression...starting at 42 meters...hehehe...around 15 stops ranging from one to 15 minutes using the travel/back gas...some air breaks...and EAN50 and O2.

Cool.

Bro, if u had planned to dive in bad visibility and extremely strong current, why don't u increase ur SAC rate for more conservetism.  But whatever it is, it also depends on ur normal SAC rate. For example, myself is using only 11 for my sac.  To add safety to it, I will add 40% more (base on ur scenario) which is 15.4.  So, SAC rate of 18 is sufficient for me.

Haiya...I mentioned SAC 18 because of currents and bad viz...my normal SAC is lower than that la  :P

If I am going to do work at that depth, I will work my SAC to 40L/min & my choice of gas would be HELOx from Surface Supply.

;D
