Skills For The Swimming Pool - Part 2

Post Number:#1  Postby GOD » Fri Jul 13, 2007 12:24 am

OUT OF AIR & ALTERNATIVE AIR SOURCE

This is one of the important skill worth practising at ALL LEVELS.....again lets do it in the swimming pool.

Start by hovering horizontally with your buddy ... mid water between surface & bottom of the pool for 1-2 minutes
- Make sure you achieve HORIZONTAL neutral bouyancy before starting the skill
- Take your time & dont rush
- Stay calm
- Breath normally

A) Facing each other ... with neutral bouyancy, you can start by giving your octopus to your buddy & maintaining your depth
- Let your buddy breath from your octopus for 2-3 minutes
- Then let your buddy do the same to you

B) Approaching from the back ...with neutral bouyancy, OOA diver approach buddy from the back
- OOA diver use the LEFT hand & pull the right fin of the buddy
- OOA diver slide to the right side of buddy
- OOA diver use RIGHT hand to grab buddy octopus
- OOA diver breath using the octopus
- Buddy & OOA diver will maintain horizontal neutral bouyancy while doing this skill
- Then let your buddy do the same to you

Make sure towards the end of the above skill you & your buddy will ended-up in controlled manner to the surface ... dont forget to do OOA or Low On Air sign for both skills.

Next step when you can master this skill, you can always load more task by:

a.  Doing it without having your MASK on
- The whole idea is to make you develop a feel of bouyancy without having any visual reference.

b. OOA situation on the MOVE
- Do it while finning

c. OOA buddy breathing
- Apply to both skill

In the end it will make you a better & safer diver.

;D

for PADI instructor they have it on slade. Easy to refer underwater for all the skills. I think not as details as the way snafu describe it.

Buoyancy Problem? My advise is to practice more on breathing...ie in the pool. U can start by doing fin pivot to check ur buoyancy. Breathe SLOWLY and DEEPLY...the time inhaling and exhaling should be the same. Like Snafu said, there must me a TEMPO. Once ur position is at 45 degrees, lift up ur legs up and breathe with the same tempo. Try to maintain at a horizontal position and check ur depth gauge to ensure u r are not bouncing up and down. Other technique is to look at any reference point in the pool, for eg lines in between the tiles. Focus ur eyes at the lines and try to maintain ur depth.  BREATHE IN AND BREATHE OUT

Cheers!

Areyou using the 3 liter bottles for your twinsets? I don't think you can use the normal 11 liter ones. You'd look like Ninja Turtle.
