DIY - Twin S80 Set-up

Post Number:#1  Postby Snafu » Thu Jun 14, 2007 1:02 am

PART 1:

Image
Mr. Holemaster....He & Mr. Hollowman will do the DIY Twin S80 Set-up

Image
This is how the cylinder look like from top view ... normal cylinder S80

You would need:

a. 2 diving cylinder

b. Twin cylinder manifold

c. Pair of Twin Cylinder Band

d. Silicon grease

e. Adjustable Wrench

BTW ... you dont need to be TECHNICAL DIVER to DIY Twin set-up.

Image
Mr. Hollowman is holding the Twin Manifold before he starts break-it down for the assembly.

Personally:

Image
Twin Manifold with Isolation Valve/manifold ... break down.

I would break-it down into 3 part.

1. Pillar Valve for Cylinder 1
2. Pillar Valve for Cylinder 2
3. Isolation Valve/manifold

Image
Pillar Valve

Step 1:

Image
Install both Pillar Valve to both S80 cylinder.... Hand tighten & lightly with adjustable wrench
Dont forget to put Silicon Grease on the O-ring connecting the Cylinder to the Pillar Valve

;D

END OF PART 1

The reason I put this up is for members to know how Twin Cylinder set-up being done from Single cylinder.

You dont need to be a technical incline person to do it, is helpful if you are  :D

Quite a number of so call Technical Diver dont even know how to set-up twins & I think is very important for them to know about it before using it.

What you can do before going for Technical Diving course is to do the dive in Swimming Pool.

You can learn the basic twin cylinder drill in Swimming Pool, in the future when you decided to go for the course you can learn other important skill.... No Nit to waste time learning how to do bouyancy & equipment set-up.

BTW... You dont need to dive deep to use Twins, is always good to have extra air for diving.

;D

I think you forgot to mention that not all BCD could be used for twin-tanks... applicable to those back-inflated Oxycheq, Dive-rite, Zeagle, etc etc... am I right..? no?

I dont mention about the BCD coz it has nothing to do with Build-up of Twin S80 ..... I think BC would fall under Equipment Configuration.

You can start on Equipment Configuration for Twins if you like.

o.k bro, got it...so i don't listen to you too, non-sense ;D ;D kiddin bro.

Well I think leafy is right, so all the BC that can change wing only used the TWIN's. I think someone need to explain until TWIN's attach to the BC. Is interesting, so i can change myself and dive with the TWIN's :P

No one will stop you from engaging two tanks with two regulators for yourself.  You can hook one tank up  to your bcd, or have it as another stage tank. PADI does not prohibit you from doing it. ;)

BTW ... you dont need to be TECHNICAL DIVER to DIY Twin set-up.

PART 2:

Here is Mr. Hollowman...holding the Isolation Manifoldbetween the 2 cylinder.

Image
This is the hardest part to connect as you need a level floor & steady hand.
Make sure you put some silicon grease at both end O-rings .... Isolation manifold O-rings
Align the Isolation manifold with both Pillar valve hole & start turning the Isolation manifold till you feel tight....time to time you need to bring both cylinder closer.
Once done.. be very careful when you move the twin cylinder around, dont want to bend the isolation manfold.

Image
This is how it look like .... Next is to install the Twin SS cylinder band.
Becareful not to hurt your hand, it can be sharp .....  :)

;D

END OF PART 2

What if the Isolation Manifold leak underwater? Is it the same as O-ring burst underwater? Well I know we need to test it 1st before we dive with it.....well S**T HAPPEN aight! ;)

And normally TECH DIVER go deeper, i understood that they will carry more than 2 tanks with them so if that burst happen during the wreck penetration and 0 visibilty. :-[ panic aren't u?

Can't wait for the part 3, so I can DIY ;D ;D

Model 8-)... can after I found my PINK G-STRING ;D ;D

Thanks Bro!

Yes ... If the Isolation Manifold leaks underwater, it be like burst O-ring.  :D

Once this Twin S80 completed, we can look into basic training/drill that can be done in swimming pool.

In general the twin's are for main breathing gas & stage cylinder is for deco gas.

PART 3:

Time to fix the Twin SS band to the clinders.

Image
I would start from the bottom-up... lift the cylinders up & slide it into the Twin SS band.
Tighten the nut & make sure the stud is facing the front ... same as the front of the Pillar Valve.

Image
Slide the 1st Twin SS band up as show above & start tightening the nut.

Image
Slide the 2nd Twin SS band up as shown above & start tightening the nut.

Image
Mr. Deepblue tightening both Twin SS band...setting-up his own Twin Set!!!!!!!
The man in the blue t-shirt is our very own Mr. Hollowman.

Image
Close-up of Mr. Deepblue hand tightening the Twin SS band nut.

Stop playing with the Isolation Manifold..... BRO!!!!!!
Image

Image
This is the End Product of Twin S80 set-up.

;D

THE END
