Japanese Wreck @ Kapas Island [2013]

Post Number:#1  Postby meme.may.fire » Fri Sep 20, 2013 11:19 pm

Salam 1 Malaysia,

Its been a while since i last post here.
Hope everything is well down here.
As always, just drop by to share this video i took and edited.

It is a video of the Japanese wreck.
A bit of history first.
After doing some search (on the internet that is), this wreck is also known as Japanese Landing Craft Wreck.
A landing craft wreck is where they convey a landing force, from the sea to the shore.
However, we didn't manage to get the name of the wreck.
I know some of you old timers here might know more, please share.
As you can see in the video it is a beautiful wreck and we are trying our best here at Kapas island
to preserve this. The reason is that i'm sure there are "treasure hunters" who took this took that.
Hey, who am i to judge, i just want a good wreck to dive.

We went there on 11/9/2013.
It is located 30 minutes north of kapas island.
We pick the exact date because the tide stayed at 1.2 the whole day.
Luckily, no current whatsoever. Guess our plan worked out well.
Its been noted that this wreck is famous for its current, low viz and cold water.
Last time I've been to this wreck was 2 years ago.
The water was 31'C on the surface and 26'C underwater 2 years ago. COLDEST dive i've been.
Moreover the viz 2 years ago was crap. the only thing keeping me and my dive buddy together was our torch.
So this video is my 2nd time here at this beautiful wreck.
And it is a whole different experience. The video speak for itself.
Its feels like the first time i get into the water during my 1st open water dive.
The viz, no current, lots of fishes.

The only thing that disappoints me is that we did not go all the way to the propeller.
I heard its big. I really want a footage of it on my camera.
But the depth is making the dive limited. So we gonna have to make do.
The reason we didn't get all the way to the end was because the buoy line was tied to the foredeck.
There are plans that the people here at Aqua Sport wants to put another buoy line at the propeller end.
If that's going to happen then we can spend more time on the upper deck.
No need to make our way back and waste time and air some more.
So that's good news.

All the info in the video i managed to get it on the internet.
So if its wrong please correct me.
For example the anti-aircraft cannon. It could be a crane or something.
If you are a ship specialist maybe you can shed some light.
The blasted starboard side was allegedly caused by the British army.
Not sure whether it was another Naval unit or a plane that cause it.

At the end of the video, there was a humongous grouper.
Man-size allegedly. But it was far away from the camera. Cant tell.
It is said there are bigger grouper than that in the video here.
Maybe it is guarding the wreck :-? i dunno.

Soooooo,
monsoon season is just around the corner.
Hope all of you have a story or two to tell of your favorite dive of 2013.
Me? I just did tell you mine. :d

Cheers peeps.

p/s : do watch it in HD

Yes, thank you for noticing.
I forgot to mention that im using someone else's intova.
Because none of them wants to shoot.
Its a shame really i forgot to tune the white balance to manual.
It is set to auto, which means that the white balance changes itself!
Urgh!
Had a tough time in post processing.
Lesson learned.

is it! oh wow now I become even more proud coz I just bought myself and intova hehehe but still no chance to try it yet. How is the battery capacity for one dive?? Do you need to recharge it again?
I choose intova over gopro coz intova has macro lense so I wont need to bring my camera if I wanted to take a picture of macro stuff.

The battery on the intova is great. I haven't try shooting continuously for a whole dive.
Except for this wreck dive particularly.
It can go up to 3-4 dives. Maybe if u shoot continuously then it will be limited.
But i can tell you that the battery is better than the gopro.

wohooo..aaahhh definitely need to test the intova. I read the manual and all seems to be good. Just don't have the chance to take it into the water.
Do you try using the silica strip inside? Or u just avoid it from getting into the Airconditioned room?

I check briefly manual in Gopro and it seems that their white balance is limited. I'm not sure whether they have manual white balance.
Anyow thanks man for sharing the vid.
