Lake Cethana ... The Diving start & end here.

Is a very big lake with dam & deep ... about 110m deep.

The water is stain .. is black in colour but is clean, I drink straight from it everyday.... water comes from the mountain.

Image
High Altitude diving with fantastic view!!!!

Image
That small thing behind me ... in the lake is the barge DD2 (Dive Devil 2)

Image
That is the Dam behind me... oh ya I am on DD2 now

I will show some pictures of the diving bell that I went down to 100m & the chamber i live in for saturation diving....later.

Ok ...Saturation diving is when a diver lives at depth close to the working depth & as soon as his work at the bottom is done, he will be returned to the chamber under pressure after each dive....he does not go out of the chamber.

Say I work at 100m deep, as soon as I am done for the day... I will be returned to chamber pressurized to 75m & stay there for diving the next day. I dont need to go back to Surface Pressure or to decompress back to surface.

Next day .. I just hop into the diving bell from the chamber & be lowered down to 100m for me to go to work again & again & again.

When our body are saturated with inert gas, we can stay underwater for a long time & the decompression period will be the same for 1 day or 100 day.... is mainly use for deep commercial diving.

Hope this help... if not, just ask ok.

Thanks for the explaination Snafu    :)

Just one more question, what are the steps & procedures taken when the job is done & you want to surface?Do they lift you up in the bell or some other method?

Again, thanks for obliging    :D

When the job is done, the diver will get into the diving bell & lock with the chamber...transfer under pressure from bell to chamber.

Once the diver is in the chamber .. decompression process start.

Now we have a look at the diving bell... this is a 2 men bell system.

1 diver will lock-out of the bell to work & the bellman will monitor all the valves & gauges inside the bell....they will swap places after 4 hrs.

1 bell run are limited to 8hrs seal to seal....leaving chamber seal & back to chamber seal.

Image
This is the diving bell...is our transport to the work site

Image
Inside the diving bell ... Yes is small, full of valves & gauges

Image
On the left is the diving umbilical(red, blue, yellow hose)....it supply gas to the diver & there are 2 umbilical in this diving bell.

Image
This is the main panel where the Bellman monitor the working diver gas supply...if any problem the bellman will know about it 1st

The above pictures are taken from the diving bell side door which do the seal with the living chamber trunking...is like a Space Craft eh, INNERspace.

Image
The TOP bottom door & it open INward the bell...we use this door to exit the bell for work.
There is another door below it which open OUTward.

Next time around will be the Trunking, Transfer Lock & Main Chamber ...... AQUAnauts 'home' Living in Pressurize Enviroment!!!!!

Snafu,
Thanks for the pixs and update. Keep em' coming. What are the psychological effects of sat diving? Prolonged exposure to big burly/hairy men in confined spaces can't be too healthy  :D :D :D

btw, am looking at your posts while whacking ketupat and rendang.....Selamat Hari Raya bro!

Looks like sat diving is another way to help you stop smoking  ;)

Selamat Hari Raya bro!!!!!!!

No known psychological effect yet as not much studies been done to it, no long term research.

I find the state of mind are very important when doing work like this, strong & focus mind.

Hey when I am in SAT ... I dont have the craving to smoke, as soon as I am out ..... Where is my Ciggies!!!!!!!

Here is the trunking where we do transfer under pressure (TUP) from bell to Chamber & Chamber to bell ... Is very dangerous doing this.

Image
Left side is the chamber trunking & Right side is Bell trunking.
What keep us from being on surface at very fast rate is the 1 O-ring at the trunking .... have to slide in & out, horizontal body position.

Image
This is the Chamber transfer lock (TL) ... from trunking we slide into this transfer chamber, is a toilet too & shower together-gather  :laughing11:

Image
Another view of the Transfer Lock ... The door to the right is the main chamber

Coming-up next.... The Living Chamber, my home.

Here comes the 6 star Main Chamber  :P .... ok No star  :crybaby2:
Image
This is the recreational/reading/meal/rest area & ahead is where we sleep  :laughing11: ...comes with 1 port hole

Image
This is where we sleep..... BIG eh!!! 4 divers in confined space  :icon_tongue:

Image
I am at the bottom right bunk ... only 1 port hole to see the world

Well that is all to it ... and we cant do much in there, maybe play cards, chess & PSP.

No privacy & living in confined space for long period of time ... you need very strong mind & strong will power.

Cant go out, seeing the same divers for minimum of 28 days, very high risk & slight mistake will cost life.

This is the real deal, feel free to ask question if any.

:D

Wow Snafu,

Thanks for the insight into Saturation Diving.  Your earlier posting on Sheffiled Hotel does brings back memories of my last year's holiday in Tasmania.  It is indeed a really beautiful island and I love the country side and the natural landscape around..........however,  I've never seen the other side of Tasmania before especially when overlooking a lake where you are working now.

Although the place you called "home" for the 28 days in the chamber looks really small to accomodate several divers at one time but most importantly, it is a life sustaining system which allows divers to live and stay while working.  Dive safely and please keep us posted with your progresses there :)

Selamat Hari Raya to you!

Snafu, Thanks for sharing the photos..... now i know your little getaway holiday home... looks pretty cool. Your room in the chamber looks like one of those rooms in Star Cruise. At least, it looks presentable and comfortable.

Do you have a pic of the tiolet? 5 star toilet too? with a bath and shower? hahahahaa  :D :D :D

Bro, what's the gas mix used in the chamber? Can u use any type of electronic device in there or are u only allowed to used electronic equipment which are classified as intrinsicly safe (non-sparking design)?

The 5 star toilet also has air lock, right?  :D :D :D

Bijan : Thanks for making the pic bigger

All on toilet : Oi if you look at the first page ...Chamber Transfer Lock is the toilet la  :P

You can see the toilet bowl & sink cum shower there.

Aquaholic : Electronic stuff ... below 9V can use but when reaching shallow decompression must send it out, chamber be high on Oxygen %

Mixture in chamber depends on the storage depth & working depth.

We are kept at 450mb PPO2 in storage at all time.

Adik : NO!

Avidiver : You should visit Sheffield, Mt. Roland ...Lake Cethana ... etc
