Ok here we go...Seamonkeys Merang DC located at a Mantaray homestay nearby Sutra Beach Resort. We do day trip diving at islands mentioned. A minimum of 4 pax divers is required to fill the boat or a fuel surcharge required. Journey with a speedboat from Kuala Merang to Bidong ( 15km) takes around 1/2 hour & to P.Yu takes around ( 25 km ) 40 mins. subject to sea condition.
Normally depart at 8.30am with 3 dives including packed lunch & refreshments. ETA back to Merang around 4.30-5pm.

Pulau Bidong Archipelago

Diving around Bidong is unique...don't see other dive boats & divers...shallow reefs here are healthy with staghorns & other acropora species intact fighting for spaces for sunlight!...the barrel sponges here are brilliant...they look like huge flower pots or tempayan and some do replicate chinese vintage porcelain vase! they come in colonies!

There's a dive site called Midway Reef or Karang Selat in between P.Bidong & P.Karah have the most highest density of dendronepthya soft corals I've seen in East Coast Malaysia sites....& its exposed to current too!

Lots of yellowtail fussiliers escorting divers...honestly you dont see lotsa sharks here but if you do it'll be a good sized! Through out 3 seasons of exploring here...nudis are abundant when the water temp. here gets really low 26 degrees celcius...we encounter a whale shark at P.Tengkorak once...seen pairs of Eagle Ray once...bumped into a schooling bumphead a few times...a few turtles...schooling barracudas at the Vietnamese wrecks....best viz we experienced was around 25 meters on an average 10-15 meters.

For training dives diving at the artificial reef or Heritage Row provide a safe & interesting ground wondering around the man made sculpture represents the Malay Heritage in Terengganu such as Terengganu Inscription Stone  (Batu Bersurat Terengganu), Malay Dagger (Keris),Betel Chewing equipment (Tepak Sirih), Local canoe (Perahu Sekuci), Malay Headgear (Tengkolok) & a traditional Arch...you could also get the feel or snap some photos of a Bus & a truck underwater!

Divers should experience diving this archipelago...the last island in East Coast Malaysia which is still undeveloped with no resorts & operators on island make it the last frontier. I hope it remains that way for years to come...some veteran diver shared a thought with me...this is how P.Redang & P.Perhentian reefs used to look like in the 80's...Oh my!

The healthiest reef I've ever seen in the whole of Peninsular Malaysia is called Midway Reef at Bidong.

It beats any reef in Tioman, even Tiger Reef or Chebeh. You have to see Midway Reef to believe it. The rocks are completely covered with huge soft corals.

Dive site map did by Brickfields Fella...Rumoh Api or The Light House is a fabulous shallow site at Merang...Preferbaly early morning dive during flooding slack tide. This site is surrounded by boulder corals Porites sp. & colonies of acropora sp. & table corals at shallow. Thru out my 3 years of diving this site I've encounter a small school of Bolbomeltopon muricatum or Humphead parrotfishes, A gigantic resident Himantura jenkinski or Jenkins whiptail ray a few species of trevallies. Its also a favorite spot for small scale fisherman from Merang setting up their fish traps or bubu...Its possible to do 2 dives here covering North & South of the reef.
