LOB
« on: September 20, 2011, 07:47:14 PM »

Hey guys, i have questions....

What are the requirements needed to join LOB? What is the minimum log dive allowed. At which level is at least needed to have before join LOB? Does the diver need to have their own full set gear before she / he can join LOB? To LOB, does the diver needs to cook for themselves or the organizer will handle the meals for divers? Thanks in advance :angel8:

Hi, I also wanted to ask regarding LOB... why some diver choose to LOB and why not on-shore based? is it because of cost?
Normally how many day on the boat? is it comfortable? and foods?

1)What are the requirements needed to join LOB?
2)What is the minimum log dive allowed. At which level is at least needed to have before join LOB?
3)Does the diver need to have their own full set gear before she / he can join LOB?

1) No requirement. Any type/level of divers are welcome
2) No min or level. same as answer 1
3) Prefer to have own gears but you can always request the organizers whether they can cater renting equipments. The boat itself only provide tanks, weights, bunkbeds, food and drinks. The rest such as DM, gears is provided by the organizer of the LOB trip.
4) No need to cook. Diver only to dive, sleep, eat, dive, sleep, eat until you puke.

Zaff1984
it because of
1)the UNLIMITED DIVES. The tanks are ready to be use. Just take and jump.
2)There is no hassle to walk to the boat.
3)No sand stuck in your booties, wetsuit and equipment.
4)No need to backroll
5)You can eat sleep watch Tv while heading to the next dive site.

Food is great, comfortable depends on the person. Some may love luxury pampering so LOB is out of the question. LOB can be min 3D3N up to 5D4N. Of coz the price will differ.
The downside, if you have motion sickness LOB is not for you. You will get unlimited puke instead.
Landbase are limited to dive sites located near to the dive centre. If you go far, then the price will be different. Some DC offer price depends on dive site location. Even if you do shore dive, you will still have to pay for it.

anyone can organize LOB. You just need to find 18 divers and a DM. If you have a friend who is a DM it will be an added advantage coz you can pay them cheap for their service :P .
Call to the capten of the boat. Know the price and charter the boat for how long the trip you are going to plan.

If you go through organizers, you are hassle free from finding a suitable DM and other problems. If you plan yourselves, you can get cheaper price than the price publish by any dive operators.
It is not ez to find/tolerate 18 divers even among friends.

Be extra cautious if u r unsure of ur ability to withstand motion sickness. There are some medications that can be useful. I've never done LOB. But i've been on long journey boat sailing. To be at a dive site and happen to be seasick at the same time is not a great thing to remember  :D

3D3N trip will usually get you 7-12 dives, pending on your "semangat" and stamina. Some have done more, but that is already bordering on "kan cheong" already. :) .

Basically you average about 4 dives a day. Roughly, you start your 1st at 6-8am, 2nd at 11-12noon, 3rd (if you are not zzzzzzz-ing away) at 3-4pm and sunset/night dive at 6-7pm.

As long as you remember to monitor your dive profile (ie shallower depth than the previous) and getting the adequate surface interval time, it should be fine.
It has been a while since i went on a LOB trip, so am not too sure of the prices now - but it should retail at around RM800-1.2k

18 divers is normally the standard number of pax that the boat can comfortably accommodate. In such cases, the DM/group leaders  on the trip will normally allocate or break the group into two or three, and dive at different profiles to avoid a "traffic jam" uw.
