KOMANDO 69 - SEKSYEN SELAM TAKTIKAL
« on: February 11, 2012, 05:53:29 PM »

People, i was at this PDRM event today and came across a booth by the PDRM Commando 69. Had a very interesting chat with one of the dive instructors who later briefed me on the rebreather equipment that they use.

One interesting thing that caught my attention is one of the fins they are using. The brand is Omega and u can actually flip the fins part upright and it will allow u to walk free. Anybody knows where this Omega fins are sold in the country?

Pros: They look like a good idea.

Cons: No splitfin design. Not sure if they give enough kick. Not sure how much grip they have while boarding boat ladders. The flip spring mechanism could wear out after a while. You still need booties.

this fin already been introduce i think about 3-4 years ago in one of scuba's magazine. Though i wont be buying one cause the only good thing i know about it, it can fold so that the user can walk.
i want fins that can give me better peformance underwater not on land :P

Well, i guess those hardcore elite needed to have something a little flexi just in case if they need to move on both land and sea. Just thought that it is kindda cool to have a flipfins. Yep, i do agree that the spring mechanism can be in fail mode over time.

Those with experience using this kind of fins can share.

comandos they use a lot. Just name the best brand in the market. They bought it, use it and left it apart with poor  maintanance.

not very useful for Malaysian divers because not many people do shore diving here - esp entry/exit at beach, rolling surfs, etc. imagine a commando struggling to put on/off fins while wanting to get in/out of the water fast...

Agree! Agree! I also know that they use scubapro jet fin as well. I believe what to use depends on which mission and it's requirement.

I wonder if we have any ex commando here in MUW.
