How to minimize dry mouth and thirsty when diving
« on: July 20, 2011, 02:12:06 PM »

Is there any chewing gums or candy that will increase sliver so don't feel dry or thirsty when diving?

All chewing gums do that.

Saliva is an auto response to activity in the mouth because the body believes that food is about to be consumed and is preparing to consume food.

Chewing gum doesn't help. Saliva glands stop secreting when mouth activity stops.

Stay hydrated.

Or think of delicious roast chicken.

But if you are going to do that, please warn the dive master. So he can prepare to look for you when you wander off in search of chicken.

1 - Drink plenty of water before going under. Your mouth cant generate saliva when you are not properly hydrated

2 -Minty candy/sweets work too - used to pop hacks before every dive, after drinking water.

3 - This may sound strange, but regulate/control your breathing. If you are breathing (ie; exhaling) like trying to start a bonfire for 45 minutes, chances are you will feel like you have rolls of barbed wire stuck in the throat at the end of the dive. Regulating your breathing, via calm and slow exhalation does help minimise it. Of course, you will also need to be properly hydrated beforehand lah.

4 - If your pockets are fireproof and resistant to huge holes being burnt, you can change your brand of regulators to them higher-end ones. They seem to have magical powers that prevent the throat from drying up. heh. Having said that u still need to drink enough water prior.

oh, have I mentioned "drink plenty of water" already?

Interesting. maybe they can also develop a hydrapack for scuba divers, like how they do for trekkers?

Hmmmmmm.

my dive buddy is so famous in Pee that she is called Pee Pee Queen.. LOL..

sometimes swimming behind her, suddenly feel warm thermal climb.. look infront, see buddy in very relax position and a 'CONFORTABLE' look on her face.. thats when u SHIT and quickly swim out of the way..

for me, once my bladder full but no matter how hard i try, cannot seem to pee underwater.

for those who do, please remember to fan ur wetsuit after Peeing..
