« on: May 12, 2007, 01:43:20 PM »

hmm.. just wondering... do u bring down your safety items on every dive?

or u don't bring them along on those short / shallow dives?

especially, those LOB.. u r having fun just below... then maybe u dont need those extra items? :-?

Even at shallow depth and even during a fun dive, we should carry our safety equipment down. Nobody knows what will happen once we're underwater. Strong current, disorientation, losing your buddy etc etc etc can and has happened before. Our safety equipment might just save us.... ;)

eg, ppl go out with free hand... i go out with a backpack.. full of stuff :P books lah.. torch lah camera lah etc etc etc .. last time my college mate told me... wah u always bring your "luagage" one hor? ... eh, where is your "luagage"?  ;)

That is the way bro .... maybe next time around I can show you how to store everything properly around your body without being seen much of it.

I do carry Safety & Rescue items with me when diving.

found it somewhere :)

Do forget the snorkel: Leave it in the dive bag or in the garage. Wear it on a dive and we'll laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

And the pig sticker on your calf: This is not WWII and you ain't Lloyd Bridges. Wear that thing and we'll laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

Spare Aire? Leave it at the dive shop, roll with one of these and we'll laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

And be sure to peel that damn bulls-eye sticker off your PST tank before you get it wet, or we'll we'll all laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

And get your Viz sticker placed on the INSIDE of your tank - facing your back, or we'll all laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

And ditch the ankle weights and gaiters - leave the trainining wheels for the NE divers with the horizontal zippers. Roll in with those and we'll all laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

And you have got to be kidding with that blinking light on the back of your tank. That is so AOW. Pull it off and leave it in the car for our next night dive, or we'll all laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

About that (j)Yoke valve... OY. This is SoCal, not some quarry dive. Lose that thing and get a DIN set up or we'll all laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

Are you still diving wet gloves with your dry suit? C'mon, lose those rigit digits and go blue, my man. Dry gloves are the new black. Coming up from a 90 minute SoCal dive with blue nails when you should be diving blue gloves just makes us want to all laugh at you cuz you look like a frozen dorkcicle.

And those Force Fins. You're kidding right? Listen Daffy, leave those to the resort divers and their JellyBean AL80's. Show up in a pair of those waddlers and we'll all laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

About that $300 Atomic "Safe Second" in bright red? At depth, its no longer red, Einstein. Roll in with one of those when you could do a better job with a $125 real regulator and we'll laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

If you don't tuck in your Drysuit hood, and insist on diving with it flapping in the breeze looking all Sir Walter Raleigh, well, you're just sad. Listen Beefeater, tuck the thing in, please. If you don't we'll laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

If you're gonna dive Rock Boots with your DUI's (I do) please trim those laces. You're not in grade school gym. Listen Hackman, Hoosers was a long time ago, and nobody has wrapped laces around their ankles since the Johnson Administration. Long laces thankfully went the way of the NBA's tight shorts. Trim those laces or we'll laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

Do I really have to come over there and cut off that flapping valve cap? Here's some news: When the valve is on, and the reg connected, you don't need the cap. Pull the cap off the tank valve and leave it in the car or we'll laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

Colorful hose wraps? Dude, listen: dollar hookers and freshly minted SSI divers wear colorful fishnets (not that that's a deal breaker) - real divers dive real hoses. Leave the $50 matching hose wrap job for the wankers in the 909. If you want to be taken seriously as a diver, roll in serious gear. Show up at the dive site with purple hose wrap and matching purple strain reliefs and we'll laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

Bust out a hammer and knock the tank boots off your doubles, bro. Nothing says "I'm diving rental gear" like tank boots on doubles. If you gotta stand up the twin towers, you're a loser and we'll laugh at you and you'll look like a dork."

"Yo, Reno 911. Nice mask glass. If you come in here with a mask that has reflective glass so we can't see your eyes, you're not cool. You just paid $80 for a $35 mask, and we'll all laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

And you, "Mr. Lobster bag on every dive", "Mr. Folding Pole Spear", "Mr. Carbine Spear Gun" - taking that bag with you on every single friggen dive, and its flapping gauges, retractors, snaps and other futile hunting crapola is only fresh if you don't come up empty handed on 8 out of 10 dives. And as for the spear, Tonto - 805 tramp-stamped muffintops think hunters are cool. Real chicks are repulsed by your stories and your Camel non-filters. Schlep that crapola on every dive and we'll all laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

Hey, you there - Skippy the Instructor and Master Diver... Yeah, you with the three maxed out credit cards, all the new gear and the legions of young adoring fans - feel free to take your class off their knees once in awhile. Lead does not equal warmth (yes, I heard some young handsom and clueless instructor tell that to a class of students two weeks ago, as this sage of sages pontificated on about his new $2900 drysuit set up) Listen, graduate yet another class of over-weighted, lawn darting, rototilling, hoovering clowns and we'll all laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

Mr Marine Biologist - yeah, you over-the-hill "I used to pull chicks" guy with the leather face, receeding hair and endless stories of your "1000 hours of research before you publish" - take a clue: We aren't listening. Its a boat, this is a galley, and its windy outside. We're sitting here as a last resort. Trust us, its a toss up between salt spray in the face, hiding out in the smelly head or enduring your self promoting, non-stop 90 MPH blathering. You're smart, but you're not engaging. Say one more word and we'll all laugh at you and you'll look like a dork. Shut up, shut up, shut up.

You there, 300# Dive Boat Sleeper. Here's a news flash: YOU SNORE! Get a cork, get some breathe-rite strips, bring an AL40 into the bunk with you and breathe off of that, or here's an idea, honker: go get that problem looked into. There are 20 of us on board, and you're rocking the house. I feel for you, I do. But please, San Andreas, grab a second pillow and quiet down or when you wake up, we'll all laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

Listen Ms Bungee Averse - wanna strap that tank in? You may have noticed this is a pitching sea, and things, well, pitch. Half the divers have already pitched their breakfast. You'll dive better when your tank hasn't fallen out of the tank station for the third time on the way to the dive site. When number four comes and you're crying cuz you can't dive because you again forgot to strap in and you've broken your cute, pink, high-performance Mares reg, we'll all laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

All of you that insist on donning your fins at your tank station and shuffling to the gate, here's a news flash: Those fins weren't made for walking. You have two hands - walk to the gate, fins in hand and DON THEM AT THE DAMN GATE. Watching you fall over like a cartoon character and crack your dome on the deck because a swell rolled in and your clown buddy, unknown to you, was standing on your finned foot will make us all laugh at you and you'll look like a dork.

"NO QUACKERS!! Do not bring those infernal ruptured-duck noise-makers underwater within a half-mile of civilized divers. Here's an idea: learn to stay in contact with your buddy. Learn to look at your buddy often to get each other's attention. Or step up to the A-game of team diving and join the other mental patients with ThousandDollarFlashLights who can practically tell jokes with punch lines using light signals. But don't,  just DON'T kick around quacking like an idiot to get your bud's attention to see the same slow-floating purple sea jelly that everyother diver around has already seen and now has to hear you making an unholy noise that will make us all laugh at you and you'll look like a dork."

Before this I dont even have any safety equipment. The more I dived, I realized how important to hv some safety equipment. Since I dont want to be like some divers.. having safety equipment tip top but really dont know how to use them.. So I decided to practise to use them first then only I bought myself an SMB.

Yeah.. its a wee bit in the way since am not used of hving things dangling on my D-rings. But I guess I'll get use to it sooner or later.. ;)

Ohh yeah!! I forgot bout that one. Yeah! I guess I NOW have some safety equipment. Thanx for reminding me SKK darling.

You know what? During the recent trip, I didnt quack my quack at all as its meant for emergency purposes. But the whole gang been asking me why I didnt quack my quack. Geez... next dive, had to quack my quack to let my fellow diver friends hear it. Can you beat that??? Its pretty loud aint it?? :D
