Hey everyone!

I was awake late tonight and was tuned into my fav channel.... (Discovery) when on comes "Beyond Survival With Less Stroud" He was out on the Gypsy boats of Sipadan. He claimed they were in dire existence and that they needed to "kill" every fish they saw to make a living? He also preached that there was no more sharks or Manta rays do to "Non Gypsy" activities in the Sipadan area. Please help me in contacting Discovery with real data. I think this is a bluff that co-insides with "http://www.facebook.com/CuriCuriWangMalaysia" . Lets make sure everything said about Malaysia is true before we are sent back to the stone age.

Totally agree with you. I do admire Less Stroud on his survival skills which is more low in profile compared to the 'Bear' but if this is what was shown last nite on Discovery, then the channel should be highlighted. Yes, it is true that the Gypsy are depending on their surrounding to survive but putting it in "kill every fish they saw" is too much and is an over statement.

I watched the previous series where Stroud hunted together with the San tribe from Africa killing 2 healthy porcupine that were hiding inside their burrow and I can't recalled him saying "kill every animal they saw". From my point of view, our Sea Gypsy is much more civilized even.

Thank you garthak for highlighting this.

Discovery has always been biased. Look at d Malayan history episodes they made.. Load of crap and referrals to Singapore only. A proper research would have included scholars from Malayan universities..

And their episodes on Chinese history, references made to American scholars in LA?

Yeah, if they "kill every fish they saw" they will be live in wealth...not live poor and kinda wanna collapse 'house' or 'hut'...not them to blame...

I had just finished watching the episode (22/6, 7.03pm - 8.03pm). I think that the episode was being presented okay. Yes, he did made some minor over-statements. And I don't think I heard the statement "kill every fish they saw". Maybe I missed it? By the way, from my point of view, the episode was made to support the Bajau and not condemning them.  They even showed the Bajau releasing 3 turtle accidentally trapped in their net with a statement by Stroud that Bajau obey the rules of protection.

But yes, I did heard he was saying that shark is no more in the area due to 'non-gypsy' and the Bajau was once involved in the shark finning activities. But he never blame them as what the Bajau had done was purely for survival even.

Those who had been & dive in Sipadan / live in Sipadan should know better about this ye?
