Jaeger-LeCoultre ROVs (Built by TMT, Owned by SapuraCrest)
« on: December 05, 2007, 08:17:13 PM »

Sincere Fine Watches opened up its boutique at The Pavilion, KL last October 2007. A view of haute horlogerie (watchmaking) which valued at RM39 million (US$11 M) makes me feel out of place in this double-story watch boutique.

One watch by Jaeger-LeCoultre, captivates me. JLC’s Master Compressor Diving Pro Geographic. A grade 5 titanium case, 46.3-mm diameter watch and a mechanical depth gauge – mechanical! The patented mechanical depth gauge (depth sensor chamber) is capable of measuring depths ranging from 0 to 80 metres, and water resistant up to 300m.

The membrane-based mechanical depth gauge on the side of the case housing expands and contracts according to the water pressure exerted onto the gauge. Applying fingertip pressure to the head of the depth gauge, it will simulate the different depth levels according to the applied pressure.

There’s also Master Compressor Diving Chronograph and The Master Compressor Diving GMT model that is water resistant to 1000 metres! How the heck they tested them beyond the depth of no return?

They designed ROV for that very purpose. 2 ROV for that matter. Jaeger-LeCoultre-1 and Jaeger-LeCoultre Junior, the first two ROV in the watch industry.  :icon_rr:

Total Marine Technology Australia specialises in providing Work Class underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) mainly to the oil industry undertook the project. And what’s more; SapuraCrest Petroleum Bhd already acquired an 80% stake in Australia’s Total Marine Technology Pty Ltd (TMT) for AU$9.6 million (RM27.65 million). The largest maiden acquisition to date by SapuraCrest would enhance the group’s portfolio of services in the area of deepwater works, which TMT already operates nine ROVs valued at AU$10 million.

Check out the Horomundi Forums for live test of the watches and ROVs. Links below.

Even in watch industry, you can get into commercial diving and ROV field.

Next: Google’s fibre optics pipe laying ROV. The internet bandwidth is saturated, more and more underwater fibre optics is needed. Blame YouTube (which ironically was acquired by Google).

Before someone got confused. These two ROVs is specially design by TMT (SapuraCrest) for Jaeger-LeCoultre. More like Class II - Observation with payload ROV. And the payload is the watch.

IronOre working with Class III - Work Class ROV. With big a** manipulator  :P

It's all banter and all, and this simple remark just to make sure the fact is still kept in mind.

Maybe sticking it on Oceanographic AUV might prove the dexterity of said Suunto watch  :D
