Introduction to Aqualculture diver
« on: July 03, 2008, 10:32:02 AM »

Hi all, I'm Adrian Chua from kelantan now base at Langkawi as a Aqualculture diver, nice to meet you all. I'm also a qualified commercial diver (restricted part 1 and 2 from ADAS), I'm the lower class CDs among other CDs in this forum, we only allowed to use hand tools only   :$.

My main job is to make sure the tuna fish inside the cage live happily and grow faster. My job including, underwater net repair, collecting dead fish (smelly job :sad10:), cage maintainance, anchoring system maintanance, fish feeding, monitoring the fish grow and lastly harvest them and make profit for my company.

The equipment we use are SSBA, with a 100m umbilical, few diving tank, harris to connect 2 diving tank at a time to umbilical, half mask and regulator incase we need to use air beg or using AGA mask with comm and fins, the diver will carry a small pony tank attach to harness with side block to switch to pony tank and air from umbilical and of course a small cutting knife and a dive computer. Those equipment are loodded into a small speedboat around 5m with 3 diver, we all need to know how to pilot small speed boat.

When reach the destiny or fish cage, one of the diver will go for snokerling inside the cage to have a quick look what to do and the diver gear up ready to carry the task. 2 diver at the speed boat act as a tender and stanby. They need to make sure the diver have enough air inside the tank, if finish they need to switch to fresh tank and replace the empty one until the diver complete the task.

Today I using my office computer so didn't have any picture to show you guy, will post some pic later. Have a nice day and GO IN A PIECE, CAME OUT THE SAME.

Regards,
Adrian Chua

That why we are the lowest ranking in CD.... :crybaby2:...I got this oppurtunity from jobstreet, they are looking for aqualculture diver and they will provide training for us at The Underwater Centre of Tasmania AKA TUCT. We have our diving course for 1 month and 1 month at Australian Maritime College (AMC) at beauty point to learn sea cage management and seafood handling. Before going we have to sign 2 year contract with this company.

As an aqualculture diver, the safety of diving is no strict as offshore diver. So you have to know how to take care of yourself. I do learn alot in this line, having fun also.

For the pic, I will upload later coz not with me now. Feel free to ask any question.

So ADAS came out with this Aqualculture course. For more info about the course can visit this website.

Fremantle is just a port for me...and fill with lots of restaurant. Normally if you go for apartment, they will ask for 3-6 months contract. While service apartment do offer weekly rates. My advice is if you have a car, try to stay a bit further so can get cheaper hotel/room. Fremantal is consider a 'tourism' spots as well in Perth. As for 10 weeks...i think you have not much choice.
I am doing service and maintenance for The West Australian News Paper as they buying my company printing machine for newspaper...cheers...!!
