My my :crybaby2: :crybaby2: :crybaby2:

Ketam believe this is not illegal and probably the shopping center bought this through legal means. The best we can do is buy this shark from the shopping center and release it. But the shark being in captivity for so long may not know how to survive in the wild.

Animals in captivity have always been a sore point to environmentalist. What are your thoughts to the sharks in Aquaria?

PS: Maybe we can do a charity drive to get a bigger tank for the shark.

Ketam,

I thought about the buying the shark suggestion. But wouldn't they just use the money to buy another one and put it in there? But yea, I do like the suggestion of a campaign to get a bigger tank. What about SPCA? Can we get them onboard this campaign or any initiative? Or are they limited to pets/land animals?

Dear Bagman, Ketam, Khai,

I think is not illegal too, as far as i recall, shark is not the endangered species, so i believed authority will not take any action.

Anyway, someone i has been in constant communicate about this, he informed that the shop is selling at RM1000, and this guy is willing to fork out his own money to get the shark out and release to sea.
I think by buying a bigger tank wont solve the problem cos' the shark can grow bigger in times, by then we need to buy a much more bigger tank.

Now here is our question.... where is the best spot to release? If anyone has shark expertise, please do drop me a line or even you can provide any contacts we will call and get advise. So far i just tot oSelangor Fishery Dept.

Thanks

Free Diver,

How do we know that the shop won't just use the RM1000 to buy another shark and dump it in to the tank? And it will be a whole cycle again, we buy, they buy a new one using the money we gave them and so on.

bagman... Ketam understand where you are coming from..... but at least we can help this little fella first.

Freediver.... Ketam's concern is whether this fella can live in the wild.... wild animals held in captivity for a period of time needs to be gradually introduce to its natural habitat.... maybe pass it to Aquaria (bigger tanks and such)

Thanks all for comments,

Bagman, i tot of that too, but since this guy is so passionate about saving shark, i will not stop him from forking out his own money to save it. But at least we can give some morale support or suggest to him as well. Thinking of bigger tank....... Do you guys know if the KLCC aquarium willing to adopt this poor little fellow.????

yea...not being negative or anything...just looking at things from different angles...what he wants to do is a good thing, I totally admire that.

I think we can give Aquaria a shot really. Even if they are a money making organisation, but the essence of the aquarium is to promote marine wildlife (and maybe awareness and conservation...correct me if I am wrong). whoever's got contacts maybe can hook us up with the right people. if not its just a call away :)

if we hands up to Aquaria....we r same with the guy who responsibility to put this fella on this tanks....the difference is this fella got the bigs tanks and maybe few prens ....ya maybe there at least this fella got a better protection...food and off course be the star...and then maybe among of us will start tot to give this fella a name....and talk to himself "this is one of my afford..." yes..the objective aquaria  is to promote marine wildlife to ppl and maybe this is the only shortcut to know this creature closely....
As we know the oceans represents about 96% of the earth's entire water reserves. This is where the rivers deposit nutrients into the water and become the basis of the food pyramid. Most of the 500 known shark species live in these biologically......Directly or indirectly they regulate the natural balance of the populations of this food pyramid. Because they usually hunt older, weaker or sick prey, they also help maintain the health of the prey population. ya like ketam said  whether this fella can survive in the wild....at least we hv try to turn back this fella to they natural habit where this is the place they came from actually ...healthy and strong have a better chance right....and we always believe this fella belongs to the oceans and that y we call this fella is SUPER PREDATORS........correct me if am wrong....

This is animal torture. Can we get the fisheries department to investigate this?

What is the status of the shark?

Hi Benny,

Thanks for posting up the news here, i know this is not a new news, just replying in case someone still wonder what happened to this poor Blacktip we named Angel...

Well, i took that video clip, n trying to get solution for Angel...

I was told by staff that this fish had been there for 2 years, no water changes done. If u keep marine fish n understand Nitrogen Cycle, this is the worst place for any fish, just like if we were kept in the room, with food & without toilet for 2 years...

The reason the fish look like this is because the fish has outgrown the tank n having a spinal disorder. I called up Fishery Department, but there is no help as they don’t have any data on Shark, in short you can do anything as you like…

I had wrote up an note on fb no Angel,
http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=389590971626

There is more Sharks in Aquarium, is there anything we can do about this?

Join us, support us, n be a volunteer, please offer your expertise, we need all the help we can as we are a non registered NGO or society... We are ordinary people who wanted to stand up to make the difference for Shark's Conservation.
We need volunteers, people who is good with graphic, someone good in english to write up proposals n letters, someone have some time to meet up for teh tarik, sharing idea, suggestion , building up n making this a successful one... : )
