Interesting question... indeed, what is the next course of action?

Now that you have all been bestowed with the knowledge, the only next thing would be certification as a qualified EcoDiver...

Get to an island with dive centres associated to the Reef Check network, engage with an EcoTrainer and do the drills - fish ID, swim almost inverted in tight 'S' along the transect for invert ID, ID the substrates armed with a plumbline and voila! Submit your data to Reefbase and you're an EcoDiver (provided u dont fail the ID drills the first one-two days :P )

Hahaha..!  B-)

Good luck guys on your certifications to become EcoDiver & welcome to the club...

Gimme some time, there were some talk about organizing the program in Macha's Redang.  Bijan, how to get in dialog with Macha??
Sorry can't work on this at the moment. My work deadlines are piling up. Meanwhile, if someone can help me to get in touch with Macha, that would help.

Lets wait for things to be discussed thoroughly. There are programmes being lined up for IYOR 2008, which includes reef surveys.

If there is anything that is going to happen in that respect, you'd be hearing it from Julian or myself.

Unless, there are other MUWians who are planning to conduct similar programmes, lets meet to see if we can come up with a more holistic approach to coral reef conservation & management.

So I gather the "next course of action" ball is in your court then eh? :)

I guess while waiting for Shafi's news, no harm in doing a few more pool sessions to practice buoyancy and keep the subject alive for those interested. Perhaps the next time that we gather for such a pool session, Shafi can drop by to give a little briefing on your IYOR 2008 agenda and how MUW can fit in.

No no honey.. the "next course of action" is in your court because you started with the pool sessions, when i had advised otherwise.

So you carry on with the next course of action for the divers who have begun with the pool sessions and are now waiting for what to do with all that EcoDiver knowledge.

I've already outlined it for you in my earlier post --> go to an island, do the remainder of the course with Reef Check network dive centres, and get certified. Have some closure on the course you had started with the other divers.

Why do you now have to wait for me to do all of that when you were fine going ahead with the pool sessions on your own...

 :hello:

Okay guys,

I have some excellent news with regards to reef check surveys and the programme for the next 3 months (and possibly the remainder of the year).

I'm going to open a new thread on it named "Sustainable Island Programme - IYOR 2008" and would be very grateful if MUW can give it its much needed support.

Moderator - can this thread be closed pls? TQ.   :hello:
