Penutupan Taman Laut
« on: July 14, 2010, 05:06:16 PM »

Hi All.....

got some sad news.... a friend told me that there will be some closure of a few Taman Laut in Malaysia due to Coral Bleaching..... here are the list and hopefully it is not that bad:

Kedah
= Pulau Payar, Teluk Wangi, Pantai Damai and Coral Garden

Pahang
= Pulau Chebeh, Pulau Rengis, Pulau Tumok, Pulau Soyak and Batu Malang

Terengganu
= Pualau Redang (Teluk Bakau), Pulau Tenggol (Teluk Air Tawar) and Pulau Perhentian Besar (Teluk Dalam, Tg Tukas Darat and Tg Tukas Laut)

So..... we need to do something about this incident.......educations and preventions for a start maybe?..... comments?

From what Ketam read that during bleaching the coral is at its vulnerable, prone to breakage and disease. Maybe they want to limit damage by divers and snorkelers.

Any step is good to protect these natural heritage for our children.

the contribution of being in such state is sooo subjectives...... it varies in many different ways...... 1 person may not be in help to prevent such matter, middle or low rank officer may be kept in silance for such concerns........

from my personal point of view...... when there are demands........ the pursuit in supply is so damn scarry....... i'm not saying it was due by a diver... by i would say it was by the development, divers knowledge and government.......

may mother nature forgive us...huuuuuu....

I think its a global matters (Global Warming) issue.
Taking care of our sea starts from our own personal behaviors.

We often asked ourselves, what can we do?
But actually we as divers can really contribute a lot by changing our lifestyle.

Try to use less Air Conditional at home, we often complains the weather is hot and turn on our AC . But turning on our AC has a reverse affect on the tempreture out side.

We often complains people selling turtles eggs at markets or illegally poaching of endanger wild life, but the plastic bags we used, and the way it was disposed has actually killed more turtles in the sea that we could ever imagine. Not to mention the impact of it to the enviroments, try to avoid using plastic bags.

We often asked ourself how to conserve patrol? But we on the other hand like to buy Imported products from all over the globe. Carbon ignition from the transports of Imported goods for us, has more direct affect on the enviroment compare to our daily drive to office. So try to avoid buying imported goods and try support local products.

All the things that contribute to global warming, we should actually try to be more aware of it and do our best to change our lifestyle to make a different.

Because I feel, saving our seas, doenst just limit us to the sea only, but its start from our home.

does the closure also means those places are off limits for any activities, especially diving?

It's actually not the closure of marine parks, what they're doing is zoning a few dive and snorkeling sites because of the bleaching event. Reason being to avoid more stress to the corals so they can recover faster. Since we can't control the warm water temperature due to global warming, at least what we can do is to prevent more damage. i agree with what reztitan said, we shud start changing our lifestyles and start from home.

The zoning is temporary, so diving is a bit limited, but at least for the best of our corals and also for all of us to appreciate so that we can still enjoy diving in the future.

Cheers!

Out of curiousity... I wonder, if ever, one day in the future, someone will invent a water cooling generator system that can regulate water temperature around the reefs, something like an open air fridge :-)

which also built with an underwater slingshot, in case it spot any snorkelers legs stepping on corals hahahah!
