Oil spills!!
« on: July 21, 2010, 01:41:04 PM »

A small side notes on the articles in yahoo news:

The BP-leased Deepwater Horizon rig exploded April 20, killing 11 workers and touching off one of America's worst environmental crises. The well has spewed somewhere between 94 million and 184 million gallons into the Gulf.

One of China's biggest ports shut Monday after an pipeline explosion triggered a major offshore oil spill. Hundreds of firefighters battled flames for more than 15 hours, and state media said about 1,650 tons of oil had spilled into the sea. Oil was seen over an area covering 71 square miles, with 19 of those described as "severe."

A number of us in this forum are working in the Oil & Gas industry. It is our "periuk nasi". (rice bowl) Where do we stand??? I don't know.. [-( [-(

Here we are discussing saving sharks, turtles, the reef, the beaches, etc, etc.

How many plactic bags do I need to save to match the damage by the "big boys"????

How many AC units needs to be switched off to match the heat from offshore controlled flares on the platforms???

How much garbage matches a sunken rig???

How many cigarette butts matches an offshore fire?????

As I've said before, in the grand scheme of things......THE EARTH WILL RECOVER, WE WONT!!

My 2 cents advice..........Do see the UW world as much as you can and as frequent as you can (Of course, you don't have to add to the damage. Dive well.) because it may not be there much longer.

And yes, deepwater explorations are still ongoing elsewhere in the world without much thought to contingencies for damage control. Why?? You guessed it.... cost too much money!!!

Frustrated that the big boys are actually thinking, acting and replying like the (fill in the blanks) Govt.

The first steps are ours....
