« on: June 18, 2007, 12:10:39 AM »

I have yet to see one with my own eyes in the sea but I did in the aquarium.  ;D ;D ;D

This is the photo of a normal Regal Angelfish (Photo 1), hybrid Regal Angelfish (Photo 2) that my friend owned and a total albino species (Photo 3).

Whale shark is easy 2 spot if one has the luck. Hybrid species are far more duffucult, even the fellow swim in front of you, if one dunno the original look, it will just like seeing another animal UW.

Hmmm...is a YELLOW CARD in order here? I can't believe how off topic this has become.  ;D

All this Hakka - Hokkien talk is making me hungry.

It's said that Albinism affects 1 in 17000 humans, although 1 in 70 are carriers of the gene.
Perhaps this isn't really all that rare in nature.

Hokkien mee anyone?

Since u asked for it. There is two common type of Regal Anglefish, i.e. grey & yellow belly (Refer to attached photo). We can see grey one in our Malaysian water, yellow belly mainly from Red Sea region. I don't have any reference with me now, pls correct me I'm wrong.

Photo 1 : Yellow Belly

Photo 2 : Grey Belly

Indeed, the picture of the hybrid looks odd. A search through the Fishbase does not yield any information of similar species. The Royal Angelfish comes in several morphology, but yellow with white stripes has not been reported yet.

The sample pictures of Royal Angelfish(Pygoplites diacanthus ) can be found at http://www.fishbase.org/Photos/ThumbnailsSummary.php?ID=6572

The sample pictures of the Family Pomacanthidae (Angelfishes) can be found at http://www.fishbase.org/identification/specieslist.cfm?famcode=460&areacode=

Similar looking Angelfishes to your sample is the Yellow Angelfish (Centropyge heraldi ), and the Lemonpeel Angelfish (Centropyge flavissima ). Could be a hybrid of the Royal and the Lemonpeel..
