I doubt very much..pneumothorax may complicate your conditions underwater unless remedial action is taken. If you smoke, it's a good time to quit to reduce it.

Yup. Pneumothorax causes air to be around the lungs..the cavities around the lungs. It also causes arterial embolism AT SURFACE LEVEL. It would be next to impossible for you to get rid of it on your ascent, especially if it accumulates more Nitrogen than usual. It will do you harm than good diving. From my understanding, surgery is the way to remedy your situation.

In my case...I had gone for a surgery due to colapse lung caused by pneumothorax about more then 10yrs ago but due to PADI requirements then this is a concern to me..

Maybe it is best if you go for a thorough medical check up with a chest specialist. Pneumothorax, even after surgery (either pleurodesis or pleurectomy), can still recur once in a while. If you already are a diver, you need at least a spiral CT scan of your lungs by your chest specialist to see if you are able to dive. However, for beginner divers...hmm...really, you need an expert opinion as a recurring pneumothorax is very life-threatening.

There are really two dangers involved -arterial gas embolism, with the possibility of immediate death due to coronary or vertebrobasilar embolism, and tension pneumothorax--which severely complicates recompression treatment of AGE [arterial gas embolism]. A large pneumothorax requires the insertion of a needle for relief and a tube management if treated in the chamber.

I really feel for you, bro. My sincere advice is: go get professional opinion and help. Do not attempt to take up scuba diving before having done so.

Woohhh...Yeh...I have to agree with you bro as and when I read ur explaination has given the thought for me to search through the net..and from the look of its freakingly dangerous for someone like me to proceed further.... :( :(

probably snorkeling would be the best solution for the time being in the sea until I go for thorough medical check up with the chest specialist....

Brader Demon, thanks for enlighten me up on this..Appreciate that very much.

No problemo...whatever I know I try to impart here..

When you start diving, I want you to dive for a long, long time, and I hope to be able to dive with you one day. The best thing one can do is to stay alive for their loved ones.
