suhaimi..perhaps the unlucky ones may get the infection but there are some that have no effect at all.
It depends on individual immune system. I read in the earlier posting (old version thread) this diver named Hole Master have had problem equalize at shallow depth but he when gets deeper , everything was ok.
In your case it was because the mucus have build up in your forehead and nose so the deeper you go the more pressure you felt. The mucus need to come out. I experience this myself before. I was at 14m down under and i dont think it was wise for me to head up to the surface. The head was pounding. My mask skirting was filled with the mucus so no other choice but to take off the mask. Sneeze out the mucus gently. This would be a dangerous act if i was beside to a trigger fish nesting ground. So i look around if there was any danger. After sneezing it out then i felt relief from the headpain. So my masking clearing method have changed to a mask recovery instead. I had to do this several time.
I breath in and blow all the air through my nose without the mask on. I didn't dive deeper cause
i calculated myself if there was going to be any emergency i need to be around depth that was possible for me
to re-act positively.
When i try to ascend, the mucus came out easily because of the low pressure. On the surface i check for any blood residue. Since i didn't force myself hard so there was no blood at all.
Yes it is dumb to go diving while having a flu. I learned a trick from a senior diver on how to un-block the nose if you are having a flu. Sometime it works and sometime its not. Though i will not discuss it here. Afraid any newbies will learn this method the wrong way.
Nothing much could be seen if all the time you had to open the mask and blow out your mucus. I have sinus long before i entered the diving world. So i need to
figure out some way to enjoy my dive while at the same time not risking myself and others who diving with me.
Heading to the ENT is the best solution there is.
