SeaDemon,

I don't know why on earth would a individual be so eager to go diving after donating blood. I mean, i myself almost felt sleepy and dizzy for 6 hours after donating blood last week.

However, one can donate blood again after 3 MONTHS of donating blood previously (this, according to Pusat Darah Negara). Our body replaces the the lost red blood cells completely after 2 months. Due to the reduced oxygen-carrying capacity of the haemoglobin in the red blood cells immediately after donating blood, one may (or may not!!) get drowsy and sleepy...

As for diving, if one is not anemic after donating blood, and has a normal hematocrit, one can go diving 24 hours after donating blood...

Hahah..this is actually a question by one of the members who happens to be a blood donor. I think the last time he donated blood was 10 days short of three months. So he's been turned back by the National Blood Bank.

So he wants to dive.

He also asked how or if there is any method in helping his body reproduce the blood needed.

There is a method of replenishing the red bood cells faster than normal for our body; that is, to take iron pills. I do prescribe this every once in a while for those individuals who are having mild-to-moderate anaemia (Hb >8 but <10g/dl)...However, if u don't like to take pills, how about eating internal organs of, say, sheep, or cow, for that matter?? Sounds gross right?? I'd rather you take hematinic pills...

Ever heard of the hormone Erythropoietin?? It is actually an exogenous substance currently banned for use in sports due to its ability to increase the body's production of red blood cells, hence increasing greater oxygen-carrying capacity of the haemoglobin.

Like i said earlier, there are a lot of ways to replenish ur body's lost red blood cells. You can eat ikan haruan, liver, spleen, cockles...the question is, are u willing to eat it?? Try the easier way, take iron supplements... :)
