Any special supplements to take before dive trips?
« on: July 18, 2007, 03:34:27 PM »

I am just wondering,  apart from taking Vit C and probably multi vitamin,  is there any other supplements that divers would take?  How about those energy bar and electrolite replenishment sports drinks?

I climbed Mt. Kinabalu 2 yrs ago,  and being in the 30's worried no stamina to naik gunung.  So,  brought along yummy chocolate bars, .... not so yummy energy bars and also some hydration electrolite sports drinks to avoid muscle ache and it is claimed that the nutrients in such drink would help the healing of the muscle.  Nonetheless,  I find that I suffer less ache.... dunno izit the drinks and energy bar is so good or izit because I was fitter THEN.... (see the past tense  :-[ )

So now, just wondering if energy bar and energy drinks helps in diving.  I did experienced leg muscle cramp during OWD.  Some told me to drink more 100 plus to restore the sodium and rehydration to avoid cramp.

anyone else have any suggestions or taking any extra supplements which helped?

i suggest drink more water to avoid dehydration, do some streching before dive and eat something to maintain energy. And don't be nervous, relax yourself while diving. If not comfortable fighting current, cancel the dive don't push yourself and need no to be shame.

don't overexert yourself...
muscle craps are usually caused by overstrained muscles. so take it easy. cause working too hard increases bubble retention in your body... some works for after a dive as well...
don't follow the beach boys for beach volleyball after some hardcore diving.
i know some people who attribute silent bubbles to overexertion.

anyway just take it easy.. try to relax and enjoy the dive. that's what diving is all about. relax and enjoy...
dun think u rush through sex right? ;)

hmm... ya,  I think I was quite dehydrated when doing OWD,  cause I also feels really dry throat ..... and muscle cramp during the underwater buoyancy (pivot fins) assessment  :o  No choice, have to abort the buoyancy stance...and quickly hold on to the tip of the fins until the cramp is gone  :P

ok ok,  next dive trips must drink more H2O.  Thanks for the tips :)

yeah man..... everything in life would be more enjoyable when we take things slowly and easy  :) ;)  Also agree on NO Streneous Exercise after diving to avoid bubble retention in the body.  Thanks again for the advise!

Yes, yes,  never forget to bring some ginger along.  I remember even orang putih in Tasmania also recognises ginger is good to eliminate sea sickness.  Everyone on board the speed boat was being offered some ginger tablets due to the rough Southern Sea.

Oooo....tid bits is a must lar.... hehehe.... even no diving also must have tid bits at home....  ;D  ;D  ;D

Yes Zaha,  will take more fluid before dive.  Never deprive our body from good ol' H2O

Hahahahaa!!!   ;D  ;D  ;D  Hmmm......this one is little bit tricky and debatable to be defined as a "Taking Supplement Before Diving"   Can only be answered by the boys if they usually takes this "supplement"  ;)  Well,  I guess if such "supplement" is an energy booster,  then.... maybe....
