Suunto D4i Changed to Dive Free Mode
« on: October 03, 2011, 11:06:15 AM »

Hey guys,

Just got back from SWV yesterday. Anyway, I was wearing a brand new Suunto D4i for the first time and after two dives, it went to Dive Free mode. And I can't changed back the mode to Dive Air until now. I hear it will be back to normal mode after the no fly time ends. Any way to not let this occur again?

Hum nobody answer?? does this mean nobody knows how to use the dive comp?

Toodus i dont have a D4 but i often saw my buddies adjusting to Dive Air before they enter the water.
They always alert this ritual before their 1st initial dives or pre-check.
They did not have to adjust the mode after that 1st dive.
Other wise it will just act like a gauge and a timer.
I think in your case, you may have skip that 1st part and so it lock to free mode until finish the no fly time.
In the manual it said that you able to change from free mode to dive air provided you were doing the free dive in the 1st dive.
In free diving no one can hold a breath up to 10min.

i have a D4 no i...and it has happened to me before. gotta wait for the no fly or 24 hrs to self-reset... no choice.

did u exceed any alarm when you were diving? it usually happens that way.

my wife has a D6, so i have a back-up...we also carry a spare Mares Puck, just in case one goes kaput. pay so much money to go, when you are there, gotta have options........

I have no dive comp experience prior to last week. But was told that once I go in the water, it will automatically do all the reading . My fault for not reading the manual beforehand.

Thanks for the tip about adjusting to Dive Air before the 1st dive.

couldn't agree more on decimal86, if were in 5D4N dive trip or more, we should carry a spare dive comp, just in case one goes kaput hehe.... :D
i don't have D4i, but i agree with run on setting the D4i to Dive Air mode
excerpt from scubaboard.....
if you accidentally use free mode on a scuba dive.... after 10mins it will go to air mode... and when you ascend... you'll hve 48 hours of no fly!

toodus, how your dive trip at SWV?

mmmmm... i pun x der D4i...

i guna D4 jer.... waktu tekan 'mode' button, u bleh tukar from 'Dive Free' - 'Dive Air' - 'Dive Nitrox' - 'Dive Off' dengan tekan butang 'Up' & 'Down' cepat2 sebelum dive comp display semua parameter...
Klu lambar dia trus ke 'Memory Mode' & 'Time'

cuber check manual....
