Should MUW be better moderated?
« on: November 10, 2011, 05:03:43 PM »

MUW has been a great forum for me to find out about the "happenings" in and around the Malaysian diving community. It has helped me plan my trips and get advice with my diving gear. I drop by MUW once a while or when I hit some situations where I would like the opinions or input of other MUWians. When I drop by, I would also like to read what are the latest happenings in "Recently Updated Topics".

And until recently, when I drop by to read the latest happenings, I only find post by Marine News filling almost all the 25 slots. I understand that in the MUW Forum rules, there are no rules as to how many posts you can post and "This is a friendly forum, if you have a problem with somebody else’s point of view, please ignore it." It's very difficult to ignore someone's posts filling up all the 25 slots. I feel this is pushing the limit.

What has "Mapping of immune genes in salmon" got to do with me, a Malaysian diver? And what crap is "Lungfish provides insight to life on land: 'Humans are just modified fish'. All these 'copy & paste' has nothing to do with me as a diver. Maybe to a salmon fish farmer or scientist.

Could the moderator do anything about this? I wouldn't want to drop by and see all these non-diving 'copy & paste' articles filling up MUW. BTW, Marine News does not give his opinions at all.

Hoping for a better regulation against these type of postings.

Take what is useful for you, and leave others as opinion ......... what say you?

When I posted this thread it was in no way demeaning or saying anything negative of the work of the moderator. I am asking if there is a better way to moderate postings by a single member which are hogging the space in "Recently Updated Topics" in relation to other members postings/happenings.

BTW, replying that way does not change anything.

Take what is useful for you, and leave others as opinion ......... what say you?

That's exactly it, there are no opinions. It's all "copy & paste" from somewhere.

I think muw should be like www.photomalaysia.com or www.scubaboard.com..
If u look at both forum the home page is just for news.
I think muw should change the way it looks.
make it more interesting.
No need to fight here.
We are arguing about whats best for the forum ok guys  ;)

When I replied in my earlier I did not see this (the attached image) and this really blew me away. I am speechless as to the reaction of a moderator who has the upper hand of all the handles in the forum and would dish out such a retaliation.  What more to say of a forum being handled by a moderator who would throw such antics.

I have to agree with Steven. The posts are really irrelevant and makes MUW look like a Mickey Mouse forum. I'll still post up my dive reports but I'm migrating to ScubaBoard forum.

if you don't like news on marine science, see title just ignore lah. if i'm not interested in buying anything from the forum, should i complain about all the posts by mudah? not every divers are interested in marine science topics. but not every divers are tourists or gearheads also... live & let live lah.
