Shot in Thailand, the five minute video starts with the dive guide coaxing the eel out of his hiding place with a piece of unidentified food. This goes on for about two minutes with two other divers joining in to pet the eel. Then a loud snap is heard as the eel grabs the dive guide’s left thumb, doesn’t let go then swims away with it.

The following three minutes shows the dive guide recovering from surgery. The surgeons amputated the first toe of his left foot to replace the missing thumb.
